Microvision screen no color?

I just finished putting in a Microvision screen in my fourth gen...but I am not getting color. Everything else is working fine but the picture is not in color. I am running this screen with an Alpine indash DVD player. What would cause this? I hooked up the video line from the DVD player to the Screen with an RCA cable since it needed a male to male connection. Any ideas? Thanks.

I did not see an adjustment for color? If someone with a microvision screen wants to tell me different then let me know, but I did not see anything.

bump

I was talking to a crutchfield advisor, he was saying that I need to make sure the screen is set to NTSC and not PAL, since they do not carry the screen he could not tell me how to do that. I did not know there way anything I could change like that. Any ideas guys? Also he said using a normal RCA cable would not cause the screen to be in black and white. Any ideas? The alpine I have is the DVA 9860 if anyone needs to know that.

I bought it from Chris91SE here on the .org, he is checking to see if he has the remote. Is there any way I can check this with out a remote? I know when I load a DVD it should tell me if its set up for ntsc or pal. I'll check that later on.

Where can I buy a remote if he cannot find the one that goes with the screen?

ok I checked it tonight and when I put a dvd in, it says video NTSC, so what gives? It seems to be set right. What could cause this?

Without a remote I don't know how you could mess around with any of the settings.

Is all the wiring in completely? Are you sure there is nothing wrong with the source?

there are a few wires I did not hook up,

1) I did not hook up the power antenna wire

2) I did not hook up the Audio Interuption wire

3) I did not hook up the Remote In wire...this wire is supposed to go to the "Remote output lead"

4) I did not hook up the M. Cont wire...this wire is supposed to go to the Monitor Control lead

I did not hook up 3 and 4 because I was not familiar with those wires and I am not sure what wires I would hook to ( I know what it says but I don't know where to hook them up)

Would any of these wires un hooked cause me to loose color?

hook up the screen to another source, perhaps a portable dvd player.

I'm starting to think it has to do with the wires that are not connected, I'm just trying to figure out how.

do you know what the monitor control lead is? If it is one wire I am guessing its that one, but I don't know what the monitor control is, and I don't have an owners manual for the microvision. There are only four wires on the back of the screen. One is the video rca, one is a ground(ground wire in harness), one is hooked to battery power(yellow), and the other one is hooked to the ignition power(red).

It's probably a turn on signal ..... but then there is the other wire for that, I guess it could be used as a secondary switch/source?

Someone with experience with these chime iN???????

I went and talked to Crutchfiled (where I bought the DVA9860) this weekend and had them look at my wiring. Everything looks fine to them too on the wiring. The wires that I have unhooked should not be hooked up for my set up. They told me that need to be able to look at the menu for the screen...well for that I need the remote, I do not have that. Does anyone know where I can buy just the remote, or does anyone know someone that sells Microvision screens...maybe I can contact them and get just remote. I could not find a website for Microvison, does anyone know what it is?

Also something to note is that when I switch source power to the radio, the screen will turn blue in color, then in redish letters it says No Signal. So its getting color from somewhere, but as soon as you switch the source power back to the DVD it goes to black and white. Any ideas yet?

no, but it is brand new. I do not have another screen I can test it with...if I just had another screen to hook to it would be a lot easier. I may try to find a small TV from around the house that has a video hook up, and plug that in to test it.

Have you messed around with the settings on the dvd player itself?

I've looked at everything I know to look at. It does not appear to have a setting to control the color output.

Check the primary yellow composite connection. If its loose or not fully connected it could cause this.

No DVD players or VCRs in the house to use?

Also just because the HU is brand new, doesnt always mean its flawless.

yeah I do have a VCR/DVD, I can try that.

What is the "yellow composite connection"? I know that the male connections are plugged all the way into the female connections, are you talking about something different?

Try a different set of them too just to be safe and cover all bases.

I have already tried 3 different RCA cables. I currently have a cheap video cord on there. I have also tried a low noise street wires regular audio cable, and then some other cheap rca. I am getting the same thing with all of them.

Then definately try a different source. If the problem remains its the monitor, if gone then its your HU.

I hooked up my home DVD player in the car (plugged into my power inverter and hooked up the yellow video cable) and everything is still in black and white when the DVD is playing. So this means I am having a problem with the screen. Does anyone have the proper wiring instructions for the screen. I am going off what another org member told me. I hooked the yellow wire to the battery power, I hooked the red wire to the ignition power (switched), and I hooked the black wire to the ground wire in the wiring harness. I think this is right but someone can correct me if this is wrong.

If all of my wiring is good are there adjustments on the microvision that could cause this problem? I do not have the remote, but the seller told me he thought he had it...so I am waiting on that. Anyone know about this?

If its still Black&White then its a monitor issue. The setting adjustment *may* help, but somewhat doubtful. Its seems as if the monitor itself has an issue, but wait for the remote and give it a try.

this is my first microvision screen. What is there to be adjusted? The previous owner said he never had problems with it. Is there a color adjustment built in? Do you know where I can buy a microvison controller if he cannot find his?

^ word to what Don said.

The screen DOES have color because you said you saw the blue screen and red lettering. I'm assuming somehow the screen got switched into the wrong mode. You NEED the remote, wait on that and then lets see.
