Battery backup siren going AWOL...

I got my car repainted and turned off the backup battery/siren before I sent it in. I get it back and they claim they did not touch the siren, however it makes a faint alarm sound that can only be heard with the hood up and your ear next to the siren. The siren works in test mode, and makes this same noise in "off" mode. When I put it to "on", where it was before I sent it in, it goes on full tilt which it should not do. Any ideas? The other siren works fine and when I put the battery backup siren into ON mode, and click lock or unlock, it does not respond to the request...it just keep blaring the backup siren. I'm lost like a tourist...and I don't want a dead battery from this backup siren either.

Click on alarm for an audio clip I made...
I had it in the "off" position, and it makes that noise (car off and everything_
-then I armed/disarmed the alarm
-then put it in "test mode"- so the loud alarm is normal
-next I put it in "on" mode, and it should correspond to my commands, but instead it keeps going off despite me arming/disarming the car again
-last I put it in "off" mode and yet again you still hear the alarm faintly going off.

For those listening, you gotta jack up the volume around 25 seconds into the clip to hear the faint siren.

To the installers of this forum...the 515R has 3 wires going into it: +12v, Ground, and (+)Siren. All 3 run inside the car and connect to wires at the brain that were left prepped by me, all soldered...i.e. its grounded using the same wire as the brain's ground wire...and the brain/alarm is still working normally, so I dont think its a grounding problem (which is the only time Ive ever heard a faint siren issue). Unless the paint shop messed with wires at the siren itself...but Rich is a 5 hour drive away from me now so I cant just go check it out.

Thoughts?

Ive never seen the 515ESP before that link...says it only works with ESP systems though.

well the 3.5 is ESP2 according to DEI.com...but maybe this siren is an old unit?

Correct. Whether the 515ESP works with ESP and ESP2 systems I have no idea.

exactly the sound..its still going...you can hear it in the beginning and end of the clip. But when you put it to the "on" setting, it goes full tilt, when it should be silent...I doubt that is because of feedback.

Yep..they did take off the hood, but I turned it to "off" to try to avoid any problems. I looked under the dash and it seems fine...but I know 0 about alarms.

Definately sounds like a bad ground.99.9% of the time you hear it like that its either bad siren ground or brain ground. Just try relocating it...

Hmm...Kevin wrapped all the wires up in Tape. I am looking for a black wire right? The bracket felt loose when I touched it...and I know Kevin would never install a bracket like that which leads me to believe they fuxored with it. This may sound ignant, but would a bad ground cause it to essentially not work "right"? Because it does not respond to inputs via the brain at all.

Its doesnt matter what/how Kevin did it. By going to the body shop you threw another variable into the scenario. At that point ANYthing could have happened.

My best guess and what I would look at first would be the ground. Yes it will be black and there should be at least one ther wire grounded along with it.

Kevin said they are all grounded in th car..but im going to strip some wire and reground it under the hood to see if its the problem.

You could do that for a temp check, but IF its the actual brain siren your work would prove useless. Most likely he grounded somewhere in the kick area. Even if not there its not hard to figure it out. Just look around a bit, no harm in just looking.

If you do try to reground under the hood and it solves the issue, make sure you follow up by regrounding in the cabin anyway. Grounds under the hood tend to be short lived and will cause problems in the future.

I just cut the ground wire and use a piece of wire to make a "new" ground by touching the piece of wire to the ground, and a pice of metal...there was no more sound.

Most likely its the brains ground then. Or not getting enough voltage to the siren itself. Theres alot of variables that might be easier to do via phone. Even if its with me and Kevin on the line...

Everything is grounded together inside the cabin, and every other feature still works fine, including all brain features and the other normal siren. And Rich said that the bracket for the siren and the keyhole on top of it were both loose when he got it back from the shop. I think the siren is just fucked.
