So I'm using birch now to save unnecessary weight.
Actually with your argument the best type of wood would be 1" MDF not .75.
However, .75" birch (mines actually less and I bet Gordon's is too), is MORE than strong enough for anything short of a true SPL system.

Anyways, The PROPER wood to use is MDF. Fu CK ur hat if you think different.
Although, I do agree with the weight comment. Thats why I now use chains + hooks to hold my subs to the back of the seat rather just a wood layout. I noticed the back of my car would ride lower then the front..... Not cool....
Dont play with fire, or you get burnt.
MDF is cheap, fairly dense, and resonate free for the most part...so people use them. but that doesn't mean it's the "proper" material.
if birch was the same price as MDF, i'm sure people would use it more. nothing against MDF, but the weight of birch is much more appealing.

Does that burn hurt?
just had more ear time with the new box...that thing is LOUD. Much louder than sealed (of course), but I didn't expect output to be 2x as loud. I resetted the gains to give the sub roughly ~800 watts. As for the germs, I upped the gains a wee bit more, so they're getting around ~108 watts per side.
As loud as the sub is, the germs keeps up!
I really gotta deaden the rear deck now.
