damaged Sirius antenna **PICS**

Hey everyone...so for the past 2 weeks my Sirius radio has been acting up and says "linking" on the display. I checked all the connections and everything seemed good. Then I checked the antenna which I have mounted on the trunk (yes Jeff dont say "i told you so" lol). The wire is all damaged.

I called up the tech support and they were of no help. Does this look like a simple fix? Would all I really need is a new antenna w/ wire to connect to the reciever? Will any antenna work or do I need a specific one?

Let me know if you guys need more info..thanks

-Rahul

Any style Sirius antenna will work. Should be about 30 bucks at your local BB, CC, or other stereo shop.

Should be just a simple splice with another Sirius antenna, although you *may* lose some signal by doing this.

This is one of the reasons I Always mount em Inside the car.

I never take the chance. If the customer buys a new antenna, Ill run the whole new antenna. Usually isnt too time consuming.

If I had a dollar for every Sirius or XM antenna Ive replaced, Id be retired. They suck.

I agree, but then again I would not have mounted outside to begin with. It seems as if intentions were to just splice anyway, so I didnt see a point in directing him to do it the right way.

so this is what happened:

I bought the new antenna and wired it up really nice and neatly. Then the "linking" display went away but instead an "invalid channel" prompt came on. So I was on tech support w/ Sirius for an hour and they couldnt figure out what was wrong. They resent a signal 4x w/ no luck. So I took out all the cables for 5 mins and then re-inserted them. I finally got a good signal.

Maybe later on I will consider mouting the antenna inside. Where inside do you suggest? yea...XM is nice but Sirius is what came with the car and it works fine now.

for sirius I would mount it outside. A GOOD SPOT with no moving parts would be on top of your roof somewhere. On the trunk lid is waiting for a wire to get SNAGGED if not done correctly. I put mine on the desk right behind the clock close to the windshield. But I have XM

I'm using an XM antenna with my Sirius. Simply because it was on the car when I bought it and I was lazy Located on the roof above the windshield, before the sunroof.

But I have an extra sirius antenna if you need it. $15 shipped sound fair?

It's happened to me before, all I did was a simple splice and everything worked perfectly with no signal loss. (If there was I sure as heck never noticed )
