So are you saying you're getting it? Or are you just trying to show us something that we've all seen?

Tubes= even harmonics, Solid State= Odd harmonics. Even harmonics= a more pleasing sound to the ears.
And tubes hold up just fine to roads. When I had to get rid of my amps, the tubes were still going strong after 8.5 years.

I guess the slobber comes from the fact that the radio was designed for the Japanese market only.

tubes are a thing of the past.
if they were better we'd still be using them.
not to start a tube argument but seriously...
no one wins SQ championships with them afaik...so i guess they arn't better huh?

The main issue with tubes is the price. But other than that, with todays processing and high quality HU's it's probably something that isn't very noticeably different to the naked ear.

Tubes create a certain "tint" or sound to the audio. Enthusiasts into this hobby in the 70s love em mostly because of nostalgic reasons. I can't imagine recording studios use tube anything nowadays.

Here's a company 3 blocks from where I work that specializes in tubes: http://www.conradjohnson.com/

Actually tubes are still widely used in both car and home/commercial, of course more popular in home/commercial.

Better and different are two different things. Solid State Vs Tube is Not a comparison. Neither will win or lose, its all in the preference of the buyers ears.

Seriously.

Actually there still are many worldwide competitors that use them and do quite good. Although last time I checked better product doesnt win either. Install, staging, imaging, etc do. You can have the 'best' (subjective of course) and not even place in an event. Install process is just as important if not more than the product itself. Again though Tubes arent 'better' or 'worse' than anything. Just simply different.

To go a step further the tubes in itself are quite pricey depending on which your using and whther its worth a dam or not. Some are very cheap, but again, not worth a dam and certainly not the effort.

Well said Don, I personally enjoy both equally, different beasts. However i cant afford tubes, so I stick to solid state

Earl Zausmer did ok in competitions with tubes

I prefer the sound, not the price. Maybe when I really get into home audio.....
