before i start ill explain my set up.....i have infinity kappa components in the front and infinity 6x9's in the rear deck on an 01 max....yes i cut holes in the rear deck and i read the thread from today about someone asking is it worth it im not here to discuss that.....i have one 4ga power wire run to the trunk, where it is split into 2 8ga leads that power my amps (one 4 channel for the speakers, 1 for the sub)...now the last few days my amps arent turning on. all fuses are good, remote lines are good, i checked everything. they wont turn on for a day or 2, then all of a sudden they will come back on and everything is fine. the odd thing is yesterday they were working fine all day, then when i left my girlfriends last night, i started the car and heard a very odd noise, hard to explain but the sound was similar to say what a lawnmower sounds like outside when u are in ur house. it lasted for about 3 seconds, then i had no more sound. my radio is working fine that never shuts off. so i dont get it? im no expert on this stuff but im not a noob either i know some things but i cant understand this one. anyone have a suggestion? thank you.

 

Get a meter and start testing stuff. Make sure nothing is grounding out. Something is loose somewhere.

 

ok...what should i start testing first? i figure if its cutting power to both amps its gotta be something with the main line, right?

 

So there are no lights on the amps at all? Using a test light check the power, remote and ground making sure all connections are clean not partial wires sticking out or anything. Not trying to offend you but if your asking basic electrical question gotta question your install.

 

ya a volt meter is ganna be your best friend. make sure you have a good ground. make sure your remote wire is powering on( the blue wire) maybe it got turned off on the head unit. check that your fuses arnt blown. also make sure your power wire didnt get cut some place. a lot of people do a shotty job routing there power wire and it gets pinched. but we need more info to know for sure.

 

That would make sense. Sounds like a loose connection. Check your battery, fuse holder (both ends as well as the fuse itself) and distribution block.

 

ok so i dont have a voltmeter but i went out and triple checked everything. remote lines are all good even behind the radio. all fuses are good. power wire isnt pinched anywhere. everything is secure. i took a video on my phone of the odd noise im getting, does anyone know where i can upload it? its in .3gp format. if someone wants to see it and possibly help me out pm me your number and ill send the video.

turn your volume up its a little low.....what im doing here is turning the key to the ON position, you hear that first noise, then i turn the key to OFF and pull it out, and you hear that second noise.

 

Get a voltmeter. Start testing. Visual inspection won't tell you much unless you have the super power ability to SEE current flowing through a wire.

And I can't tell a d@mn thing from that video. Sounds mechanical.

 

i posted that video in the 5th gen forums and its the idle air control valve....and its a normal noise so i dont have a problem. but ill have to get a voltmeter bc unfortuneately i dont have that super ability to see current flowing lol but thanks for the help everyone......
