What kind of radar detectors are you guys using??? If none(your crazy) why not? I own an Escort 8500 X50 and is the most important "mod" to date.

I don't trust the one I have and it makes me drive like a wussy. If I really wanted one, I'd grab the Valentine One.

Actually the escort is slightly stronger in detection than the valentine. The flagship arrows on the valentine are nice but are rarely accurate. 50 percent of the time the radar has bounced off something which will give the valentine a false sense of direction. Basically when your radar detector goes off, SLOW DOWN who cares where its coming from. +1 for the X50. Give it a rest fastmax.

i don't have one. i go by my friends philosophy, a radar detector only weakens your senses. he speeds and weaves through traffic and has yet to receive a ticket.

Because of the new VA laws on speeding, I am shopping for an Sti to replace my RX65. According to Bel, the Sti is compatible with my Bel LaserPro 905.

What kind of roads do you typically drive on? How many tickets would you say you escape from with it on a monthly basis or whatever?

I've considered getting one but my concerns are a.) having a detector in your window screams "guilty" and b.) We have a bunch of motorcycle cops with "instant on" guns. What has been the deciding factor for you?

If money is not a issue get the SR5 with a ZX3 Shifter made from escort. I have had it for about 4 yrs and no worries at all. I was rolling through VA from Williamsburg and No Issues at all. You can hide the unite in your center console and put some leds on your clusters to warn you what is coming!

While the X50 is a fine detector it's actually slightly behind the V1 and the STi in detection. It's also detectable from a quarter mile away to the Spectre III. You obviously have never owned a V1 because you would know first hand that the arrows are very accurate and once you have them it's very hard to go back to another detector. The only person having a problem with the arrows is Craig Peterson. He takes a radar gun and walks around the car. Not quite a real test. Craig is also being sued by guysoflidar.com because he intentionally sabotaged their recent testing. The STi is a great detector. Unfortunately they have a problem with the firmware that is making the detection of KA 33.8ghz horrible. Down to 100-200ft in many circumstances. radardetectors.net has more info on that. Let's not get into a V1 vs. Escort vs. Bel debate. They are all great and the ALL have flaws.

Wait just another month or so. The STi has problems with detecting 33.8ghz in certain circumstances. Detection is down to 100-200ft. They are supposed to resolve it this month.

Living in VA and knowing VA State Police just ordered a slew of Spectre III's, I am very excited about the Bel STi. I know the V1 is only detectable from 166ft to 500ft depending on the unit, but I want the stealth. I can always keep my V1 and upgrade it when they come out with a fully stealth version. I don't know how I'll like not having the arrows. Many people that have never been exposed to V1 tend to discount the directional arrows. I was one of those people. If it beeps just slow down. Well, once you know where to look it becomes downright addictive. Are you going to get tagged from behind? Probably not, but it's nice to know a LEO is coming up from behind instead of looking everywhere.

Bel is taking a very long time fixing this 33.8 bug. Sometimes it won't even pick up KA at 33.8ghz. There's a few videos on radardetector.net showing this. I hope they fix it soon. I want another toy.

Bel STi is your only choice up there. It's 100% non detectable and is pretty much future proof on detection. It only leaks a minute amount in the 400-500mhz range. If they made a RDD looking in that range it would have an enormous amount of false alarms as there are a ton of things in that range.

Bel has supposedly fixed the 33.8 issue. It's fixed via firmware.

Not really. Because it's a remote install, the radar sits down too low. Windshield mounted detectors almost always outperform the remotes. The Newer SR7 is significantly behind the Windshield mount Escort X50/9500i/Bel STi/Bel RX65/Valentine Once, etc.

Hmm interesting even though the spectrum of the dector is 36" from the center of the grill Up or down! Which seems to be higher than the radar in the center of the windshield. Also what cop shoots at your windshield? Not really sure how you can come to that conclusion that on is better then the other since I have not seen any test on a true comparison!

Just replaced by RX65 with Bel Sti. Was glad I could plug my Laserpro 905 into this one also. Its now on 100% of the time. VA is just too greedy. It does get very hot.

Here's a review of the SR7 from 2003. I'm not doubting that laser detection is better if the sensors are located towards the license plate, but lets be honest, the V1 kicks butt with laser and I think we can all agree that laser detection isn't very beneficial. 9 times out of 10 your the one being clocked.
The SR7's KA detection was good, but you can clearly see x and k are quite bad in comparison. So here's your comparison.

If your in VA, and in the market for an RD..........STi is probably your best bet due to the VSP's recent investment in the spectre rdd. The STi is the only RD that cannot be detected by the spectre.

I have been using the V1 and have no plans of getting rid of mine even though spectre's are here. Fortunately, I also have one of the earlier of the current production V1.8's. The early production V1.8's are only detectable at a range of 400-500ft, compared to nearly a 1/4 for a brand new one. Not sure why the newer ones are more detectable though since there isn't much of difference in detection range between all V1.8's.

As for me, I'll make do with shutting it off when I get near a radar source.

On the previous V1 Spectre could only pick it up within about 166 ft. from the front. But since they added a digital temperature compensation PC board, and drilled a hole in the antenna housing, it is easier for Spectre to pick it up.

Thats why I'm glad mine has the analog compensation board thingy. I know the 3.818 was still using the analog board. I think they switched over to digital board around the 3.826 revision. There was a recent test done with 3 V1's, vs the spectre 3(the newest one) the V1's tested were revisions 3.818, 3.826, and a newer 3.858. The 3.818 was detectable <500(front and rear), while the .826&.858 were detectable at almost about 1000ft out (front and rear).

The 166ft you mentioned I believe was vs a spectre 1 or 2. All the spectre's in use now are spectre 3's, which are alot more sensitive than the previous models(hence there ability to detect RD's at a greater range).

I've had my x50 blue for over 2 years now and the LASER warning has never gone off falsely.

Now all of a sudden within the last 2 weeks, it goes off repeatedly in the city and not a cop in sight! It's annoying as hell.

I just went to the vitamin store just now and it went off 6-8 times for not reason.

WTF!? I haven't done anything to it nor have I dropped it on the ground anytime in the past 2 weeks. Any idea?

I've seen people install them in 4th gens right behind the clock...but doesn't having it anywhere but in plain view under the windshield interfere with your radar detector?
