Volume control issues with '97 Bose system
Volume control issues with '97 Bose system
The **** that controls the volume and ON/OFF of my 97 Bose radio is not working correctly. I turn it and turn it and the volume stays the same. Suddenly it'll work and get really loud or low (depending on which way I turn the ****).
It'd appear as if the contact points of the **** which is soldered to the radio are loose or something.
I looked for instructions on how to remove the radio but can only find them for 96 models and for non-Bose radios.
Anyone knows of a good link that shows how to take the radio out?
Any ideas or suggestions?
I want my music under control NOW!!!
Thanks.

I had the same problem and fixed it by replacing the circuit board behind the faceplate from another radio. The volume switch is really three switches inside, one for vol up and one for vol down plus a push/push switch for on/off. Once you remove the top and bottom plates of the chassis, the faceplate comes out. The circuit board is held down to the faceplate by 6-7 small screws.
When you reassemble the faceplate, be careful with the connector pins. I bent one and had to take the dash apart again.
To remove the radio from the dash:
1. Remove the top center A/C vent and the shifter faceplate.
2. Remove the ash tray.
3. Remove the two top screws and two bottom screws holding the subframe.
4. Radio is held in by 4 side screws.
5. The large white connectors are hard to get out. Press in the center tabs and pull.

So if you replaced the circuit board, why didn't you just replace the entire radio? I assume the board came out of another working radio. (Maybe not...)
An used radio is going for $150-$200 or so in e-bay. I was hoping not having to do this but looks as if i have no choice.
