2) Remove speaker
3) Deaden
4) Mount mdf ring
5) Caulk/deaden seal
6) Wire up speaker
7) Mount speaker
8) Put door panel back on.

The hardest part is removing the small trim from around the door handles... don't let it get you down though.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but is there any other way to run new speaker wires through the rubber conduit through the door? I see how the poster in the link above did, just curious as to how everyone else did it?

Thanks.

I didn't use the conduit, there is a rubber gamut / giant washer-filled opening located a ways below where the conduit goes into the door. You can push it down or peel it back or whatever and feed the wires through there. It's really tight and the rubber is tough and it can hurt your fingers, but other than that it I found it be the perfect place. The wire will come at the same level as the back of woofer.

Did you drill a hole in the car where the wire exits to get to that point in the door, or how did you run it? I'm just a little worried about the wire getting pinched not being in the stock rubber housing.

No drilling... the wires work fine. To get the right length after you run the wire just open to door all the way and pull the slack out of the wire ...but not too tight. There is plenty of space in there, no worries. If you have more than one wire tape them together.

If you have a Bose system there are amps, I don't know much about that system.

There's a single amp in 5th gens. You don't have to remove it, but you do need to either bypass it, or keep the oem spaekers and integrate into a new HU.

no... wrong. You dont NEED to run an amp. You could run all the wires to the back of the headunit and just use the internal amp inside the headunit.

i took the grommet off in my 6th gen. i just left the grommet hanging without either ends attached to the car or door and just snaked speaker wires through the grommet with a clothes hanger. then i popped the grommet back into place.

Yah... but it would be a shame to spend all that time (or money) running new wires only to run them to a deck.

Yeah the white plastic molex housing where the wires run from the car to the door. Did you drill a hole in this or did you just use the rubber housing to run the speaker wire to the door bypassing the molex? I guess I need to take a picture to make more sense of this. Sorry for the confusion.

drill a hole in the plug. its a pain in the @ss, but it can be done and is the right way to do it if you're running new wires.

You could also run 9-wire if you prefer.

That's what I was thinking. I don't think there is any room on the molex plug, so do I drill out where the old speakers wires went? God I'm so confused.

i just used the rubber housing. i didn't need to drill any holes. i just had a friend keep the grommet straight, and i pulled the wires through it. i don't recall a white plastic molex housing actually on my 6th gen.

Here is a pic of what I'm talking about. Behind the black housing in the middle of the pic is a large oval piece of white molex that houses all of the wires that run to the door. After looking at it, I noticed there was no room to run new speaker wires. Any ideas welcome. I apologize again to the OP, I've totally jacked your thread.

yeah my grommet looks like that. i just pulled out both ends and snaked the wires through. i snaked the wires into the kick panel, through the hole and then through the grommet. it was a pain in the ****, but doable.

as for the molex...don't remeber if i have one. i'll check tomorrow and snap some pics.

If you are talking about the same piece I am, you can create an opening by sticking your finger near the bottom and peeling it back. It's very snug and holds the wires.

Don't drill anything it's not necessary.

You'll have to either cut out the speaker that's attached to the black mounting ring or buy/make some rings.

I just drilled. Muuuuch easier in my opinion. Quicker too. Took 10 minutes to wire up both sides.

Ok ive been on this site for hours on end and ive probably overlooked what i need, or im just stupid. I want to install my system in my 01 se(just got it 3 days ago) the cheapest way possible. I have all the amps(MRV-F407 & 2 MRV-t757) and speakers(2 sets of Boston 6.5LF, 2 12" Boston subs), and old eclipse CD5442 HU. I would like to keep the steering whell mounted controls, so for now the HU will probably not go in.

I know how to install systems, but you guys definitely know way more about car stereo than i could ever imagine. Should i go out and buy several line output converters, will that even work? Or do i say screw the steering wheel controls, and install the HU and run all new wires?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sorry to jack the thread, i cant post my own thread yet

Are 1" rings too big? i bought some tonight but havent opened them yet. I have Boston Pro 6.5lfc, which are about 3" deep. I also found 1 set that came with my speakers, they are 1/2" and seem like they will work fine.

I know you guys are preaching sound deadening but i cant afford it yet, do maximas rattle alot?
