i got the bose system an its great but wanna get a little more bass. curious to know what i need parts wise to add a seperate amp and sub to the factory system

 

for starters....Do you wanna keep the old head unit?

 

Since he said to the factory system, I'm assuming YES.

Just tape rca's into the outputs of the HU for signal, run power ground and remote and hook up your sub, done.

 

Easier said than done...

but make sure your splice the right cable..

 

It's easy if you know how to do car audio installs.

Ok, but why did I also get the suggestion of using a "PAC AOEM-nis2 (with OEM-1)", or a hi-lo converter (line level converter)? I know how to install myself but mainly with an aftermarket system or basic factory system. This will be my first Bose install. I could go aftermarket in my MAXIMA, but I just like the look and style of my factory HU and don't want to remove it right now. I'm a complete Noob when it comes to splicing RCA wires. I've never had to do this on any of my past installs.

 

Because some people just like to spend money and feel more secure I suppose?

 

Thats the thing, I don't mind spending money but I like to do it myself. I just did the Bose HU fix on mine.(The entire left side would sometimes cut out because of the ribbon on the changer) I just want the best way to install an amp and sub to my Bose HU.

 

Then you would be fine using the method above..

 

Thank's 4 the help. This really didn't solve my delimma, but no one is giving me the best suggestion. I'm trying to see which one will give the better signal to my amp. Money is not an issue, quality is tho....

 

I dont understand how it didnt, either will work and do the same thing. There really is no 'better'.

OH! Now we have gotten somewhere with this. I was under the impression that one would be better than the other. So i can just go with a hi-lo converter (line level converter) and get the same mediocre results. Now since I have your attention good buddy, where should i install the wires from the aformentioned LLC? I was thinking on the factory sub, but should it be before or after the amp?



And no, money is not an issue, but I like my Bose HU. Maybe after I do this install and see how it sounds then I'll look into changing everything. But its stock w/ subs for now...

 

Ok check it out the LOC, and PAC take a high level input and convert it to low level, the Blose already puts out a low level, so why would you want to make the signal even lower? You don't. SO the key is to splice in RCA's into the leads goign to the amp from the headunit to get your signal.

 

IF it makes you feel better, I spliced the low level wires coming out of the bose headunit on my cousin's 03 maxima with BOSE + NAVI (wiring is the same as the diagram I posted previously) and it works VERY NICELY. it's actually giving out a VERY good/strong signal...much better than I thought. Just do it that way and be done with. ALSO...if you do decide to upgrade the headunit you have the RCA's run already.

 

Now we are heading into third base about to make the turn for home. As I stated before, i've never spliced RCA's but I'm sure I can with proper instructions. To my knowledge it is two main wires that make up + & two more that make up the - of the RCA. Which RCA wires do I connect to the wires behind the head unit?

I do apologize for being so unknowledgable about this subject, but I know I can do it myself as long as I get correct instructions.

Theres two wires in the rca, one ground one signal.

 

So I would match the rca wires with the rear output wires #13-16(from the diagram posted earlier)from the Bose HU? A pic of this would help out a great bit.
I already figured out to use the Bose sub amp wire (green w/white stripe) for my remote turn on.

 

Well thanks for all the help fellow Maximites. I have completed my install, and it actually sounds pretty good. I ended up going with a LOC installed after the amp on the factory sub.
I'll post pics of my set up later. (i'm sure no one really gives a HOOVER tho)

 

You're not getting a full range signal to the amp then, you're getting a signal thats been eq'ed to hell and back by the bose amp.

 

I didn't feel like taking out my HU again after I did the ribbon fix(left side cutting out). Then running my RCA's dow the passenger side of the car. I talked to some guys from my local Stereo One and they suggested to go with this. What do I need to change then Good Buddy?

 

You can tap right before the amp then, rather than after, and use rca's directly to those wires, just make sure you're using the appropriate wires.

Hey Ben, post the pic's! I'd like to see how it turned out. I've been itching to put a sub on my Bose system too. I just haven't made that scratch yet. I've been dreaming of a fiberglass box on the left side of the trunk and the amp tucked into the right area of the trunk. But part of me knows that I'll make life difficult to get to the spare tire unless I strap the boxes off the floor somehow.

Stupid question, but.
Do aftermarket stereos generally sound better than bose? I think bose sounds pretty good by itself. Though I am installing a pioneer HU when I install my system tommorow. Will I loose the quality of the bose?

Sorry I've been kinda busy. I'll take the pics this evening and post them tomorrow. It's not a highly decorated install but it is neat and most of the wiring is hidden but some is noticable. I did want to install my amp and cap on a board but how could I mount it to the trunk? Also how can I mount my sub box to my trunk?

First loose the cap, 2nd mount the board to the back of the back seat, tada.

 

WOW, you've been doing installs for years? And thats how you do your wiring?

 

Yep, that's how this one turned out. I like to mount my amps to boards and hide the wires like that, but its hard when u don't have a place to mount the board. Whats with the back seat mount? Why would that be a good location? Why should I get rid of my cap?

I tried it out and it worked. Now i have to cut my wires down so everything fits right.
Why was removing the cap suggested? I know it's only a 1F but it should help.

 

It won't help, it'll mask other issues, and cause more strain on your electrical system. Read up on doing th BIG 3, and do that instead
