First stage in audio upgrade done, thoughts and suggestions

Hey all,

Finally replaced the stock bose system. So far I've got:
Eclipse CD7000 deck
Rainbow CMX 265 components
US Amps MD41 amp
(deck bought from jsl and amp/speakers from Don, thanks guys!)

Only had the system in for two days so I'm still in the break-in period, but so far I love it. The rainbow speakers sound crisp and clear, even at unreasonable volumes, my only complaint is that it really makes the crappiness of poor recordings/radio stations apparent!

Currently I have no rear speakers (just have the rear bose speakers disconnected). There is definitely a lack of bass right now, I will probably hook up the Bose rears temporarily and see how that works, but eventually I will probably get some subs. I don't really need anything massive, but the mids and highs I'm getting are so great, and to not have a solid bass to back them up just isn't cutting it.

Either way, highly recommend all of the above components, although if you're considering getting a CD7000 make sure you're comfortable with its toggle switch, if you have big meaty fingers or very little dexterity it can be easy to make the wrong selection. Other than that, it's a great deck, and well worth it if you can pick one up at a reasonable price.

Yep my germs make ****ty recording useless...and its part of the reason why I never listen to the radio. Get a 10 or 12 and call it a day and keep those Blose speakers unhooked.

Glad your enjoyin em, I told ya you were in for a treat.

As for the lacking of bass, are you referring to midbass or subbass? I just want to clarify in case your having an issue that maybe we can rectify.

deaden those doors

it'll really help with the midbass and get rid of any unwanted resonance in the sheet metal.

I don't think there's any problem per say, there's definitely some low end kick, but it's a bit less than there was with the bose (I'm told that bose tends to make their stuff bass heavy). As someone who plays the bass, I find myself focusing in on bass lines a lot, so thinking that I'd be happy without a sub was probably just delusions anyways!

Oh ok, just wanted to make sure. Yes the OEM Blose tends to be a bit bass heavy, but due to distortion, not actual music !

Welcome to the world of modding your vehicles audio system, once you start you will be hooked.

So do my Dyns, except they can and do what a sub would.

OT: Did you ever tell you cousin about that 'situation'?

Yes, to the OP, we got off track a bit. It happens often. It looks like you have started off very well. I wish I would have all the money I wasted on cheaper lower quality components. I could get some Plats by now, at least. Did you take any pics before/after you installed them? We like pics around here.

Nice, there are little things about the CD7100/7000 that take some getting used to but once you do its a pretty solid unit. Are you running the CMX's active? I am assuming not, but hey since you've got the capability maybe its time to tap into it

Oh and one more thing. The guy that bought the Contours from me had them installed in my garage today. He almost blew them. I got kinda pissed and told him to turn it down. It sounded like ****. He was clipping the HU. Not the speakers fault. I felt like I wanted to buy them back after seeing how they would be treated. Oh well. On to bigger and better things.
