Yeah, the one pictured is super smooth. The other I am still working on. My arm feels like it is going to fall off. What would I need a heat gun for?

I never said anything about a guy. If that's your thing, do what you like cause I don't judge

I'd rate leniency of materials in the following order (from least to most)
1. Paint
2. Vinyl
3. Suede
4. Carpet
I thought about grabbing some suede but Kevin left a bunch of vinyl here. I still can make that happen if you think it would be stretchy enough to cover the complex angles and be worth buying it.

Lawl! I have been a fan of the SE since it first came out. I have no experience with the new version, but I like that dust cover better. I bet it is the same motor, basket, and soft part with the addition of a new dust cover. If so, you will like. Well, as long as you don't buld a box like you had before.

Give it a shot. You have nothing to lose, if it doesn't look right, peel it off. Maybe two layers will mask the imperfections better.

heat makes the vinyl much easier to work with.

I think I will try the vinyl and see how it looks. You are right, I can always pull it off and start again.

Ah, I had no idea. I don't have access to one though. It looks like it will be 70ish today, I hope that helps.

When I put dampening on in the summer, I just lay it in my driveway to soften it up. 70 deg should be good for vinyl too.

Also, it's snowing here. And it's 70 there. Not bad.

LOL, I have done the same thing. Driveway + sun = easy installs of deadener. It is already 70. It will get a little warmer too. I will go lay the practice piece out there in the sun for a little bit.

Oh, and in case you didn't see my thread on DIY, I broke apart the sails I made. They turned out bad. They were impossible to cover with vinyl and were sitting 1/2" too low. The door panel would no longer fit. So I trashed them. Time to start again.

The gremlins took it.

Sucks man, but at least this time you've got some mistakes to learn from.
