Help me out guys.

My new deck let's me setup crossover stuff. It has highpass and lowpass.

I can set highpass filter to OFF/80hz/120hz/160hz

I can set lowpass filter to OFF/80hz/120hz/160hz

I can also set my "bass center frequency" to 60/70/80/90/100/130/150/180

I can set my "bass bandwidth" among four settings, narrow (1) to wide (4)

I can set "treble center frequency" to 10khz/12.5/15/17.5

I think I have a good idea what these are, and I've been playing around with different settings (and setting the subwoofer level different ways) but I'd like to hear from you guys more info on this and what you think sounds best for certain kinds of music (I usually listen to pop, trance/house, and older 80's stuff... I like high end more than low end...)

thanks

If you got the top of the line JL 6.5's I would set the high pass at the lowest point - 80 Hz. JL advertises that they can take it so let them try. 80 Hz isn't to low fro fost 6.5's anyway. If you want a decent sound stage I would set the low pass even lower with the setting on the amp or a seperate crossover. There is a lot of directionality in the 80-160 Hz range that they will easily extend to with it set at 80. But if you want killer midbass and output set it higher. The bandwidth you will probably need to play with but for your musical interest I would get medium to wide. The higher treble frequencies will probably only be beneficial if you listen to classical, jazz or Floyd.

Wow thanks man. I don't like classical or jazz really, but do listen to Pink Floyd.

I'll try what you suggested.

thanks again

Does your amp have built-in continuously variable xovers? If so, then you are better off bypassing the HU's xovers and using the adjustable ones. Highpass your fronts at 60-70Hz and lowpass the sub at 65Hz for good up-front bass and solid midbass.
