Ok so I got some 6.5s and 4x6 plate for my 89 non bose maxima and I have run into two problems. One the rear speakers dont make any sound! There is a big thing on the rear deck is that an amp? But I dont think its a bose, it would have 6x9s right? Anyway there is a sony head in it and I think I didnt hook up the amp wire. The old speakers were blown. Do I have to wire around that big metal thing?? Secondly the g*d da*n 4x6 plate doesnt fix in the plastic thingy that is it supposed to go in! What do I do about this. Im getting really pissed Id appreicate your help. Thanks guys for rock

I'm not sure how a 89 Max. is setup for the rear, but was there sound coming from the rear speakers? Even though they were blown, they still should have produced sound. If not they weren't hooked up correctly. Also the thing on the back deck. . . Does it have wires coming in or out of it? If so do they look like RCAs or speaker wire? These would be the only way I could tell it was an amp. If it doesn't have anything coming out of it, then more than likely it isn't, or it is but it isn't hooked up. Also if you have a Sony deck, the system more than likely isn't BOSE, but there could be a converter on it. If so, there should be other signs, like speaker covers, that designate the system was BOSE. Also check the back of the speakers you removed for a brand name.

a little help
ok so it is an amp i think, it says clarion on the bottom like the speakers. Its hooked up, (the fuse was blown) and the speakers are running through an aftermarket sony head into the clarion stock amp thingy and into the kappa 6.5s this cant be right, right? Should I cut the cables coming into the amp and go straight to the speakers, Id havet ofigure out which cables are right. Thanks, I think I may be able to saw the back off the 4x6 holders and get the plates to fit kinda, it may work, i guess. damn this is harder than I thought, so much unnecessary complication.
If you have no clue what you are doing, then go to an install shop. If they won't help you, then pretend that you want to buy something, and ask a bunch of questions and have them come out and look at your car, then ask away.
I get all of my stuff from a small shop (chain stores--circuit city-- charge just to look at your car), he looks at my car for free when I have problems and he gives me great deals. I've had things go wrong and he replaced them for free.

First off I have to ask you if you were the one who installed the kappas, if so right on keep doin your own stuff. Check this, nine times out of tens it may work.
1)Check all fuses may be one burnt out, simple right.
2)If its not the fuses you will need to check all the
connections on the speakers, cause if any two are
touching (like from the back of the deck or at the
speaker terminals) the speakers will produce no sound.
3)Check the speakers themselves, if you bought them off
some dude at the carwash they may be fake
4)If only certain sets of speakers are working, excluding
any subs running off a pre-amp, check the bracket on the
back of the deck for loose/incomplete connections.
If none of that works post up again there are always those one out ten cases. Good Luck
