Ok, I have a 98 SE with the double din cd/tape player that is NOT the bose system. I am thinking about replacing pretty much everything. I know where to get a single din dashboard piece, but is there any other suprises that I should be aware of? Is there an external amp with this system? And I hear people talking about needing an adapter for the antenna? Whats the scoop? Any help would be great, thanks!

It's pretty simple. No external amp in the base CD/tape system. You should get the antenna adapter. You can find them at most car audio shops. Some modern aftermaket head units have two antenna inputs so it's pretty easy. In case you don't know already the Max has the antenna you see in the trunk and one in the rear window. I have zero original equipment and when I finally finish(or should I say restart) my sub box, I will have at least 3 amps. But will probably install a forth in the spring.

recommendation
if you are going to replace the deck and are considering adding amps i would strongly recommend getting a deck with high output preouts. this will help minimize the alternator noise that seems to plague our cars, and makes for a much better system all around.
