help with Maxima 94 audio system
I am looking for detailed information on what parts I would need to completely overhaul my Maxima 94 stereo system. Right now my radio does not work well, my cassette player does and my LCD screen is dead.
These are the things I know:
1)Need new In-dash Receiver; but don't know what type, size, etc..
2)The old speakers seem ok.
3)Do I need a new FM receiver ?
4) the rest I don't know
THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Most radios in 3rd Gen Maxes are Single DIN Units. The only time they are double DIN is when they have the CD/Cassette unit with the Bose system.
2)The old speakers seem ok.
Bear in mind that if you have a Bose system, each speaker has its own separate amp because the speakers are rated at 1 ohm. If you plan to keep the speakers with a Bose, you would need an adapter for your head unit to work. If you have the Active Sound System, you are all good because you are running off of a Clarion amp and the speakers are 4 ohms.
3)Do I need a new FM receiver ?
If you are replacing the head unit, you essentially have a new "receiver."
4) the rest I don't know
What about an amplifier? CD Changer? Are you going for SPL (Sound Pressure Level) or SQ (Sound quality) or SQ+ (Sound Quality + SPL)?
What's your budget? What kind of speakers are you planning to go with?

I just turned on my PM and E-mail
In your case, let me give you a rundown on a system I had planned for my '94:
Front Stage: Focal 136 KX 5.25" Components
Rear Deck: JL Audio VR-690 CX
Amp: JL Audio 300/4
Subs: JL Audio 12W3
Sub Amp: JL Audio 500/1
Right now, I am planning to just swap out the factory speakers for some Eclipses (5.25 Coax for front, 6x9 3 Ways in the rear). I decided to hold off on the more complex system until I get my new car.
