Radio problem

Last night my subwoofer just stopped working. Whats weird is that when I turn off the radio and turn it back on (no matter how slow or fast) the sub will work for like 10 seconds and then "turn off". I opened my trunk and the blue light on my alpine mrp-m450 was on. I just tried to mess with it; I checked the power cable at both ends, ground, sub to amp and it was all good. Anyone have any idea what's happening? The sub is a pioneer ts-w30m so the amp should have enough power for it. Any help is appreciated.

i dont think you ARE getting enough power or also maybe it is a short. check the line again for any openings as well.

What do you mean by not getting enough power? The sub is rated at 150w rms if I remember correctly and I the amp can push 220w at 4ohms, which the sub is. What's weird is that it works when I first turn on the radio for a few seconds and then stops.

if the amp is overheating or not getting enough power (voltage / amperage) it will shut itself off to protect itself.

It worked fine for about three weeks. The amp has plenty of breathing room in the trunk. That's why I'm stumped. I really don't know what to do. lol

disconnect the sub from the amp and turn on the system and give it some volume. if the amp still clips, it's not the sub.

If I disconnect the sub from the amp how will I know if it is working or not? More details: I checked all the connections yesterday including the headunit. Everything looks good. The sub works until I turn the volume above 25 or so. If I leave it at 25 it plays. I have played it before at the highest volume level which is 62 and it didn't clip. I'm a newb at this but I do know my sub is rated at 150w rms. My amp is rated at 220w. I had the gain turned about 65%.

Is there anything in my setup that would cause the amp to do this? I was thinking about replacing it with the same one.

I connected my friends sony 10" sub to my amp and it works fine. I connected my sub to his amp and it didn't really do anything. I removed the sub from my box and the sub seemed like it smelled a little funny. I think the sub is the problem.

Sounds like your voice coils are shot. If you have a warranty, see if you can send it in for repair or replacement.

Even though it's only been used for a few weeks and it was new it was a few years old. I searched a little bit and read about wires coming loose in the speaker. I'm going to go hold the cone with my hand while cranking up the volume and see if I can get it higher than it cuts out at.
