IPOD hook up to bose deck Qs
IPOD hook up to bose deck Qs
I have a 95 SE and my bose deck has a cd changer button on the front. In my old car, I picked up the wire for the cd changer, and rigged it to play my ipod (no controls, just playing through there vs tape or fm). curious if this was possible with my max.
Where could this writeup be found? I've been scouring the web for details on hacking an aux in via the cd changer. I was about to pull the radio out again ( I took it out before to fix the backlight problem) to see if I could figure out the pinout, but if there is such a guide, that would be amazingggggggggg.
Thanks
BTW, I did alot of searching here using external search engines, but I got a ton of dead links and mislabeled links (i.e. they sent me to a thread with no relation to the subject they were supposed to be on)
Thanks

Well, sorry for the double post, but here goes: After searching via google, I was able to get an archive of an older faq page. I was able to find the link to the writeup, however, it had been deleted, and google archive had cached that page recently so the old writeup was gone, until I though of the good 'ole waybackmachine, and voila: http://web.archive.org/web/200511100....php?p=4083400
My one question is: why bother soldering onto the board itself when the pins are available on the back..? Unless you'd need to do more work to confuse the changer wiring into thinking you had a changer installed... I'll try it out later and see what happens.

I used a wire wrap tool I got at Radio Shack when I was in college and wire wrapped to the pins on the back of the HU. I was able to get the AUX on the display...but no sound...maybe my iPod was not putting out enough power or something.
I got it to work when I did It on saturday, however, I did solder direct to the board. It shouldn;t matter though, I tested the continuity, and they matched up. Maybe you mixed up the pinout? I accidentally did that at first when I was labeling things.
I installed a toggle switch in the open space on the lower right of the faceplate, however, the pins of the switch got shorted on the case (I had to cut the PCB to fit the switch in, though nothing ran through there, except interestingly, the contacts where another switch WOULD go, it was labeled AM-somthingsomthing, I wanted to test what it did, if anything, but I didn't have time.) I'll post some pictures and full how-to tomorrow if I get the time to fix my issues.

Maybe I did...I remember I had to use the 96 connection notes to get AUX on. So you connected your ipod output straight to the HU input and it worked? I might have a bad HU. I was going to mount an auxilary jack on the face plate like the late model radio's have but dropped the project when I got no sound.
Its odd that you were able to get aux to show up, because you acctually need to short a pin that isn't accessible from the cd changer port to ground, or to the aux pin for the CD changer (both seem to work, I shorted both).
I'm uploading pictures right now for a walk through of sorts.
Links is: http://www.ryft.org/index.php?title=...Bose_HU_AUX_in I'll keep updating it till it's done. I need to get the pictures of the sodlering from a friend, because I did it at his house.

using the pin-out of the aux/cd changer should you be able to do the same thing? without tearing open your deck? would that make life a lot easier, and leave functionality of the button on the face of the machine?

Even though I still havn't finished it, if you read it, you'll see you need 5 pins from the cd changer input, and one from somewhere else on the board.
It's really not too hard to get access to that pin though. If you're good, you can lift the plate up while the thing is still put toghether and solder while verything is stil toghether. I did it for two pins that got pulled loose by accident, it was a pain though.

I have no problem sodering, just dont think its necessary.
The pin thats used to turn aux on and off is NOT part of the cd changer pinout. That pin is the sole reason you need to solder.
This particular pin can be shorted to either GND, or the AUX pin for the cd changer.
I had originally though thats the aux pin would be grounded to enable aux, but I was wrong... Took me a few hours trying to figure out why regarless of my switches position, it would be stuck on aux (I had GND and the other pin connected to one of the switch pins and the AUX pin to another on the switch).

This is free though :P and sound quality is still better than FM trasmitter sound.
And even if it costs the same, sound quality is a LOT better, and its less wires/things in the car. you can run this wire wherever you want so its tucked away.
It should still work.
I'm not sure what the difference between aux and Cd changer modes are, so I dunno if they'd interfere. Its possible if switched into aux, you be playing from the changer at the same time? I'm not really sure though.

that kind of what I'm worried about and since I got the "CD ERR" this week. I'm looking at getting a new one.
