5.1 surround sound?

i'm wondering about installing 5.1 in a 4th gen. i've looked at sound processors and i was wondering where you get the input for the center channel. i was thinking you could split the mono out for the sub. i also noticed that these systems seem to be very low power (~50w) and all channels are equal. i had my heart set on a ~1500w 5 speaker system (comps & sub) but i'm thinking of toning it down a bit for the 5.1. are there any quality speakers that operate with around 50w?

Why would you want 5.1 in a car?

LOTs of people run setups like this, nothing strange.

There are many 5.1 amps available, to get the signal you need you can typically use the amps processing, or get a headunit that has 5.1 procesing built in.

this one states it has power:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...768381,00.html

understand that this is for a show car. i am trying to impress on all fronts; engine, suspension, exterior, interior, and ice. so in all honesty, it's just to have it. but as with all the other things i'm doing, if it can't be done right i won't do it.

*edit* links to 5.1 amps?

You could grab any amp that does 5 or 6 chanels of output and get a processor. That'd take care of things, or htat pioneer would work fine.

i'm thinking the pioneer with a sundown 1500.1 (400w @ 4ohms) sub amp and 100.4 on the components. i need to do some more research so this will probably change.

I run 5.1 surround in my car jsut for movies but stick to 2.1 or 3.1 for music. I ran an Alpine MRA F350 5.1 Theater amp, but now I run an Alpine PXA-H701 5.1 Processor with JL slash series amps. I have the Alpine MRA-F350 for sale ($130 shipped OBO) but you need certain Alpine HU to run it. Let me know if you want pics of my temp. set-up (in the stages of fiberglassing my trunk)

I've been looking into Audison stuff for a while now and from what I gather, they are fantastic amps. I'll be getting one soon if I can figure out which one I want. In terms of price, PM Pearl96Max (Don) and he'll let you know everything you want to know about it.

sounds like a winner, 1200 isn't bad seeing as it will replace 3 amps. i'm sure if don sells it its quality, since he calls everything i like crap. lol. i just don't know about 100w to drive components up front... i was planning on double that.

don, if you read this and want to send me some info pm or post.

yeah i think it will be fine, considering i will be cutting the sub power in half also. thinking of using an idq 12" now instead of an fi q. any thought on wether or not i should get a different set of components (the ones i have now are rated for 250 rms).

Get the v3, should be out soon, dual 4 will give you 780 rms, I'm not sure if hte sub channel is 1 ohm stable on that amp, but sick amp non the less.

looks like the 10" v3 is available already but i might just stick with the fi q since the amp can do 780w at 2 ohms (didn't see that before).

now my question is do i still need a 5.1 processor? assuming i do i might just use this amp: http://www.audison.eu/index_main.php?Section=LRX51k (or something similar) and the 50w center channel from the processor since thats the rms of the speaker i want.

i guess i'll hit up some audio forums to see what the correct way to do 5.1 is.

Audisons are great amps but I never liked any all-in-one amps. What will you do when one of the channels break? Then you have no sound when you remove the amp to get fixed. I run a three amp setup JL 500/1 (sub), 300/2 (front), and 300/4 (rear and center). I have the Alpine W200 that controls the PXA H701. I think I am going to swap out my 300/2 for a 300/4 so I can go active on the front. I love my set-up. Like I said earlier I only use 5.1 when I watch movies and either 2.1 or 3.1 when I listen to music.

how was the set-up when you were running f350? were you running the 500/1 when you had it? if so, did the mids/highs keep up with the sub?

Yes I was running the 500/1 with the MRA-F350. It kept up just fine. It is all about how you set it up. You can make any part of your system over power other parts. Let me know if you are interested on buying the MRA F350

Here are the specs:

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...model=MRA-F350

The only reason I went with the PXA H701 and the JL amps was because the PXA has a 31 band graphic EQ and you can go active if you wanted to. Also I wanted the amps all to match.

yeah i asked a dumb question, think i'm gonna go with the d550 since it has a digital processor built in. i'm not gonna go active on this one i think, but i do want to be able to tune it. i'm actually thinking about running rainbow coaxials since the power is so low, then doing something like an idq 12" with 600w.

btw, thanks for the headache. your post in the console pics thread is what made me change up my whole plan.

Audisons error rate is below the 1% range. Why worry about what *could* happen?

You wont be disappointed with an Audison. Take it from someone who has used one on a continuous basis.
