what is this wire on the 2000-2003 wire harness
I didn't get a color code when i bought the wire harness the best i can say is that there is a "black wire with white stripe" on the first one on the picture. the only wires on it are the 2 RCA jacks the amp on wire(blur with white stripe) and the wire i mentioned

little off topic but,
hey, im having some trouble installing my amp to my 2001 maxima w/ bose.
ive unsuccessfully tried to splice my factory sub... and it seems that i have also caused my sub to be unresponsive. uh anyways, can anyone please help me by telling me what each wire represents? it may be hard to see but they are (in no particular order): Black, White, Red, black with silver (or something like that) and green with white.

ma bad its this http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=157919
Thanks a lot. that really helps. um however, there is two black wires, one that is solid and one that has a silver dot on it. if you know can you specify which one is the ground and which one is the imput?
also, i cut my RCA cables to splice the wires and i found that there are actually two wires: one within the other. my question is: how should i go about splicing these cables?

yea i got a Rockford Fosgate Punch P3002.. um right now i pretty much messed up my factory sub for some reason. but right now i dont really care i want to get my MB quart one working. anyways... now i am confused and i would appreciate if someone can tell me what to splice. i already have the sub's plug all cut up so if you can help me from there id rather do that than cut up some other wires
Well it seems that no one was able to answer my question earlier so I went ahead doing this myself. basically, if you dont want spend that extra cash for an adapter, then youll have to pretty messy and risk your system if you screw this up. Anyway, this was done on a 2001 Nissan Maxima, but im sure the same can be done for any system as long as you know what each wire stands for.
My newly added stuff seems to work so ill assume i did everything correctly.
Some tools recommended for this job:
Small wire connectors
Wire cutters/strippers
Soldering materials
For the maxima, there is a factory amp installed inside the trunk. first Disconnect the plug attached to the amp. Next, Cut the electrical tape surrounding the bundle of wires. After that, peel back the rubber cover that is wrapped around the wire (no need to cut here). Next, you need to know what each wire corresponds to. Im not sure if it matters whether the front speakers or back speakers are spliced, but in this case I used the back speakers. Find the output for the Rear Right + and - and also the Rear Left + and -.
after you find these wires cut all four wires with the wire cutters and also the RCA cable to desired length. This is the part thats especially important. To the best of my knowledge, most, if not all RCA cables have the same polarity set up. The inside wire is the - wire and the outside is the + wire. make sure you seperate these wires pretty well -you dont want them touching each other. Next, take your soldering iron and melt some of that lead on each end. This step is not necessary, but it will make sure your connections are secure. its a beotch to do, but its better than having your wires come out their connectors (like it did for me). Be sure to verify that your connections are secure by replugging the amp plug back in and turning on the car. if your current stereo system doesnt work... well you still have time to save it before you make a bigger mess.
The next steps apply to all four wires that you have cut:
anyways after you solder the ends, Solder the RCA wire to your output wire. once the connection is secure, put both the connected wires into the connector (doesnt matter male or female). once completed solder the wires to the connector if possible. Do the same for the other three wires. once this is all done, attach the other connectors to the other set of wires which up until now you have not messed with. be sure to solder these connections as well.
For the maxima, (review and print this. itll help http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=157919 )
The black wire with yellow stripe was spliced to the Left Negative wire of the RCA cable, the light green to the left positive, the pink to the right negative, and the light blue to the right positive.
after all your connections are done with the amp, do not plug the RCA imputs just yet. turn the car on and make sure your system still works because it should even when you spliced it.
Now, heres a little mistake i made in this entire process... well quite a big one actually, but luckily, it did not cause any MAJOR damage... at least externally. I accidentally reversed the polarities when i spliced the wires. (positive to pink, negative to blue, etc.) so... the sub was squeezing out very little and smoke started coming out of my amp... so i quickly disconnected my RCA imputs. This is the major risk you run if you do this yourself. Luckily, it seemed to have just overheat and not do some major damage. long story short, i cut my RCA cable somewhere towards the middle and reverted the wires. too lazy to take off the connectors and start over again. be sure if you do this (which i hope you dont) to tape the connections with electrical tape or something to prevent the + and - wires from touching.
anyway, if everything is done right and assuming that you wired your sub correctly, you should have a good signal to your Amplifier. now im not too sure about this, but it seems to have work so far: if you mix up the left wire speaker wires with the right RCA wires, and plug it in as if you didnt (Right imput into right jack), you should still be fine....
hope this is this is helpful to you and good luck!
(if anyone can make this a separate post, i would think this would be nice for other people would have access to this rather than having this lost into oblivion. i dont have 15 posts otherwise i would do it myself.)
