Not that I've seen in a maxima, but very easy to do by simply extending the wires. Done often in classic cars where people don't want to remove the **** style radio and cut the dash to install a new radio.

Car alarm?

locking it in a glove box would be pointless anyway, i could break the glove box in about 2 seconds... its only plastic. Your best bet is a 2 way alarm.

A local installer here installed a detachable-face unit in his S2000 by putting the face in the rearview mirror while keeping the unit itself in the single din opening. He ran ribbon wire to the pin connector. It looked awesome and certainly got looks with the top down ( although he did lose his rear-view). Just a thought even though it wouldn't be as cool in a max. Like the others said though, just run more wire over to the box it shouldn't be too hard; you can even build a mounting bracket so it isn't sliding around everywhere.
