2 15s + Spare Tire

has anyone tried, or does anyone know if its possible to have 2 15s and still be able to get to your spare tire in the trunk?

Sealed probably, ported no way....

You would have to pull the box out obviously to get to the spare tire....2 15s in a 4th/5th gen is a waste of time (unless you want to go IB ). Our cars are ****ty vehicles for loud systems...spend more money on completely sound deadening the car instead...

Height of the box is going to make it VERY tight.

Stick with 12's, the 'difference' it makes is not worth the trouble.

One of my first systems way back in the day was a pair of sealed JL W1 15's, iirc the box was right around 40x12x18. It had to be put in the trunk bottom-side first, i.e. just dropping it vertically into the trunk opening because our trunk opening is small height wise. Was still a tight fit, but possible.

An infinite baffle setup done right should work. I heard some really good ones......and really bad ones to. Things to consider.......

Pros

- take up very little trunk space
- roll-off at 12 dB per octave below resonance, where resonance will be lower due to increased size of enclosure
- notorious for extremely flat response
- preferred by many for SQ applications
- allow you to retain the spare tire

Cons

- Lower efficiency than a typical sealed system
- Less peaky than a typical sealed system - which typically means less overall output
- Power handling lower than a typical sealed system
- No acoustic "spring" to assist with woofer suspension as in a typical sealed set up, therefore the woofers suspension must be up to the task
- Much more complex to build than a typical sealed system

Yeah my 3rd gen handled 2 15s with no problem at all. My 4th gen.......spoiler snapped off in a week, replaced the trunk latch once, and cracked the taillight lenses in a couple of places. Alot of that had to do with the fact that I couldn't get the enclosure back as far as I'd like so they were hitting off of the trunk lid harder than in my 3rd gen which i could get all the way to back of the seat. It was hard getting the enclosure back far enough (trunk torsion spring FTL!!) in the 4th gen. As for getting access to the spare without taking the enclosure out, thats gonna be hard if you plan on running 2 15s. I have to take my 2 10s out to get to mine. I say go with 12s too. You'd be surprised what 12s or even 10s can sound like with the proper enclosure.

you're looking at at LEAST 5 cubes NET for a pair of ported 15s. gross box volume will be get near 7 easily. that's if you go ported. sealed...that's more doable.

i'd say get one solid 15, ported it, tuned sorta high and it'll get PLENTY loud for you.

Even a single 15 will be hard without removing the tortion bars...you don't want to point it up in a trunk car, more so in the 4th/5th gen. You will lose A LOT of output if you do...

I would go with one 12 instead ported...to give you an idea my AA Assassin 8 in a 1.2 cube ported enclosure tuned to 35hz could flex my windshield with some songs

SSA is the only place selling them...those assassins are beasts...I had the original version and they took a beating...600rms at one point...

Only thing that can really match it is the SS RL-i and the JL 8W7, which are each nearly/over double the price...

Just mount it facing the rear...

15 + facing up = BIG loss in output...
