Been missing you guyes
So to start, i totaled my Maxima a couple months back...
was looking to get a new one for a while but a friend of mine had a good deal on an acura tl, so i went ahead and bought it. problem is, no acura forum can even come close to compare to the org.
anyways im pretty sure my question is applicable to some of the newer maximas with newer bose systems (2 front door, 2 back door, and a sub behind the rear seats head rest.)
so here is my question: could i not just splice into the 2 rear speaker wires (probably right behind the HU) and run some wires to the trunk and set up 2 more speakers? i was looking at putting in new speakers in the doors but there are some size issues, so i figure i have 2 spots behind my rear seats (either side of the stock sub) that i could very easily fit speakers into.
possible problems/things to think about:
when i splice into the rear stock speaker's wires i know it will split the power between the old speaker and the new speaker, but is there an equation or something to figure out how much power will be lost? (im going to put a 2 ch amp for the 2 new speakers so im not worried about them not having power, just the old 2.)
the new speakers are going to be much more powerful than my stock speakers so my soundstage will be the opposite of what you would normally have (most of the sound would be coming from the back, not the front) so do you think that would sound terrible?
because the new speakers will be run through an amp will they have a delay and cause an echo?
thats all i can think of at the moment, im still just sort of playing around with the idea. lemme know if anyone else has done similar things to this or if you have any suggestions

The bose is ran with an amp. The headunit just sends a low level signal to the bose amp to give it signal. Tapping into them for power for speakers will net you next to 0 output. Doing this is not a good idea as you already have a sytem that is not setup for the audiophile with so many rear speakrs, adding more to the rear will just degrade the staging even more.
I would suggest adding amp and some new components up front, using the same method to obtain the signal for the amp that you were going to use in order to put in additional speakers in the rear.

ahhh, thats how it is in the max's but im pretty sure not in the tl. ive got an aftermarket HU installed (forgot to mention that) and it doesnt require an adapter to lessen the HU's signal. (when i had my max i had the same HU installed but it had the soche adapter so it wouldnt blow the speakers out)
so you think it would sound terrible then, with the sound stage being messed up like that?
there are some size issues with puttin anything in the doors. i cant find any speakers worth buying because they have to be so shallow

If the TL has bose, and it is self amplified, you do need a low level signal going to the bose amp, no if's ands or buts.
I don't think it would sound good....
How shallow? You can probably use an mdf ring to accomodate..

Ahhh the TLs are very easy to work on...
OEM amp is located in the passenger kick. Wires are all standard 16Awg so you use that as a central spot. Some small amps will even fit.
Doors are a breeze ..standard 6.5
Rear deck is a bit of PITA and dont forget the bolts behind/under the rear headrests.
Disable (if not done already) the front (map light location) and rear ( also map light location) mics for OEM 'tuning'.
No harder than any other car.
