Which would you pick for new stereo?
Plan on changing out the stock cassette player for a new detachable face CD player. I've always been partial to Alpine, but I know Sony & Pioneer are good too. What are your favorites/which would you choose?
Thanks so far guys! Honestly, it's been so long since I've had to change out a car stereo, we're talking the late 80's here, I don't know about a lot of these fancy new features. I remember when we had to pull out the whole stereo and take it with you, LOL
Anyway, the technology is so advanced now...I see these new flip face stereos and MP3, iPod stuff, some have video screens, I have a lot to learn. I just want to be able to listen to CD's, LOL My kids have iPods, I don't

Can't really go wrong with Pioneer or Alpine, but you have to ask what exactly you want out of a head unit.
If you simply want to listen to cd's get something like an Alpine CDE-9881, it's basic, but will get the job done.

Sony, not so good. Maybe getting better? There previous red and silver faced HU's looked horrible. Their new stuff looks better.
Pioneer: +1 on the Premier line. Look for the built in cross-overs that work on the speaker level outputs too if you require that.
Alpine: good stuff!
Eclipse: I personally would never recommend Eclipse. I had a lemon a few years back, my first and last time to try Eclipse.

Every pioneer that has crossovers work on the speaker level and preouts.
i have the pioneer premier 880 and enjoy every little thing i can change with the crossovers.
as for eclipse never owned one but i have heard good things about them and they have a nice pre-out voltage. but have always heard ppl complaining about them.
and personally i dont like the way alpines look but that is just me

I would go to crutchfield. They give you so much information on all of their products. Go to www.crutchfield.com and compare some HU. You don't have to buy from there but it will help you out alot. I can't tell you which HU to pic. You have to do that. Although Alpine' high speed Ipod cable is included now with some HUs. And if it isn't, it is the cheapest of all IPOD connectors. I think. I personally like Alpine and Eclipse though. Hope this helps. Let us know what you chose.

For just a basic deck (non audio-enthusiast) i would recommend an Alpine or Pioneer waaaaaaaay before eclipse.
what a completley objective statement. They exceed everyone in what way? cause ill be damned if their interface is better than any of those other brands.. And thats just one feature. It all comes down to what you're looking for.

I assure you wouldnt say that once you play with a 3200 .. sure esthetically it *may* be sub par, but functionality is killer. Especially with BT fully embedded and sitting at a $279 SRP.
But you can go wrong bumping threads over 2 months old, and having someone install your head unit who told you a steering wheel interface would not work.
I'm not trying to follow your posts, I just happened to pop my head in the 5th gen forum and wanted to clear that up.
Like I said in there...Time to find another installer...
I know a good one in Edison NJ...
