Bose speaker cutout quick question

Hi all, I am sure I am beating a dead horse with the Bose 6 cd changer 5th generation problem where the speaker cuts out on the left side, but I just have a quick question

Typically I do most/all maintenance by myself, but I'm not interested in pulling out the radio and messing with the cable myself as I really don't want to break anything on the radio itself or more importantly my dash trim. Of course my car's left side is beginning to cut out and the cable needs replacement, but I need to know - where is a good place to take the car to have this radio service done?

I am thinking that if I take this car to Nissan, they will want to replace the entire radio and will not listen to what I have to say as the diagnosis. Is that assumption true?

Also, I am in Central NJ and the shops we have around here consist of Circuit City, Best Buy, and Auto Image and Security which I highly do NOT recommend due to their shoddy work on my old car.

I'm not nescessarily looking for a name of a place as most of you I assume will not be from jersey, but mechanics I trust don't deal with audio and I need a reccommendation to what kind of place to pursue for the repair.

Thanks alot

Well I guess since you are not looking for a shop name, the name Unexpected Creations in Edison would be of no use to you. Its only the small shop our moderator here (Pearl96Max) owns. I doubt he would be very knowledgeable about maximas though, he has only worked on a few hundred as well as owned one himself.

(note the sarcasm...dont take it seriously)

P.S. Yes your assumption is true that people you talk to are going to say to replace the radio. But that doesnt mean just dealers. Whether you talk to dealers, independent shops, or forum members here (i.e. audiophiles), i'll bet we will say the same thing. Yes the dealer will try and sell you their new $500 crap radio and audiophiles will say aftermarket, but the bottom line is replace it. Labor costs alone to fix yours are going to cost more than an aftermarket radio which would give you much better sound, tuning, ipod/sat radio capabilities, etc etc.

Ok, I will not rule out getting a new head unit because I've always wanted to get an in-dash DVD unit, but the problem with replacing the bose unit is that #1 I will lose the 6 disc changer
and #2, I have a question: will any of the bose speakers/components/sub work with an aftermarket radio?

Crutchfield has a device you can plug your after market HU w/ the Bose speaker system. Let me see if I can find it.
