Aftermarket Alarm systems info please...

i dont know anything about alarms. my factory alarm has served me well thus far, but im starting to put more and more money into my car and figured id upgrade to protect my investment.

basically the only option i know of is "viper".

i think my local tinting place is asking $300 for a fullinstall.
that seems expensive.
is it?

are there any other aftermarket alarms i should be considering?

i want one with the beeper or thing on my keychain which will alert me if my alarm goes off

i also dont want one thats too sensitive

i was also thinking of just getting a LoJack but dont know how much will cost.

im lookin to spend no more than 300.

all input is appreciated

thanks

I know vipers are not bad at all. The 5900 Responder should be fine. Main things you want is starter kill, good range (1 mile), umm, outputs for extra accesories (window modules, glass senors, extra horns, etc) and code hopping. The 5900 also comes with a LCD 2-way, its not color but ur not gonna be staring at it like a TV all the time You can get it for no more than $250 0nline somewhere. They also have some model thas a 7900. Only difference i've seen in it is a full color pager plus in diggs in yuh pockets.

I personaly bought a Scytek vision guard so I could have a camera in the dash and have the control to turn off my shock sensor while i'm in places that tend to have lots of vibration and road noise. When you mean u don't want it to sensitive, im assuming ur reffering to the shock senor. I think they all have somewher u can stick a flathead in and adjust its sensitivity.

err...good luck

What your referring to (5900) is alarm and remote start. I do not think the remote start portion is his concern right now. The 7900 is a standard two-way NON SST and that is the primary difference aside from color.

Buying online is a dangerous thought. There are ALOT of counterfeits out there furthermore he would lose all warranty and theft deductible. After paying for install he wouldnt be too far off from the cost of what his dealer would be charging him with the exception of the risk he is taking.

Clifford 12.5x/Viper 5000 would suit your needs perfectly. If one of these is what your dealer is offering then go for it.

As for the shock sensor .. it is controllable via the remote.

They are two different named systems that both fall under the DEI (Directed Electronics) umbrella.

www.directed.com
www.clifford.com
www.viper.com

You can select the later of the two from the dropdown menu on the first link under products. Python would also fall into the same category, but I do not recall the model at the moment.

it seems the clifford is better just from the product features rundown.

do they cost about the same?

im looking at about $200 each before the install cost right?

Neither is better, they are both exactly the same aside from cosmetic differences.

Im not sure where that price is coming from since theyre all required to be bought and installed together. There are no 'over the counter' sales permitted on either and online is a Big no-no.

It may help to post the brand an model of the RS/Keyless unit. There is a Alarm/RS Thread Sticky with all of your important wiring information. If you are not good with electronics or question or install, have a professional do it. It is not for a beginner to tackle.

Yes I had Python before. As Don mentioned above, all brands like Python, Clifford, Viper, and a few others fall under Directed electronics and are all essentially the same. You should decide which features you need and pick your alarm accordingly.
