Installed amp, Could use advice on good setup

Ok, im not trying to go for anything huge, just good sound.. I just installed a Sony Xplode 600w amp, its 4/channel, I have the LPF side connected to two 6" Enclosed boxes, decent speakers, probably 4ohm, but not positive. And I have on the HPF side two Alpine 6x9 speakers (my rear speakers) which are 4ohm and max 250w. ALSO, the with the old wires off the 6x9s I have NO way to tell no which side is +/- Can I tell this by resistance using an Ohm meter maybe??

Now what im TRYING to achieve for sound quality, I want decent bass from the two 6" enclosed subs.. And I want a good midrange from the 6x9s..

One thing bothering me, I have a Alpine HU, with Sub control.. the RCAs are wired correct, the two 6" boxes are set as my subs.. I can control them with the subwoofer +/- option.. BUT, they STILL get controlled by just my regular bass/treble controls. Which I dont understand..

I looked at some wiring diagrams, should I be wiring the speakers in pairs? I dont know how =\ The diagram I saw it actually went, 1 negative from 1 speaker and 1 posistive from the other.. so the speakers themselves got wired into each other.. Would that turn two 4ohm speakers into 8ohm or 2ohm? And the dials on the Amp itself, 1-2-4-6-0.3v-0.1v? The further clockwise you turn, the louder, but what are the numbers, are they to select the Ohm you want to run??
I have both on 4, and the switch on the LPF side is turned on 80mhz, and the HPF is off, i noticed no difference with it on.

Im, OK with doing all this on my own, but obviously I dont know enough for setting things up proper. Any help?

Bass and treble would still affect the sub. You're setup is somewhat different, if the enclosed 6" are not actualy subs, it may not sound good at all.

Hmm define subs? They're enclosed in truck speaker type boxes, with bass ports.. So no i guess theyre not true subs, cause they're 3-way.. BUT with the port and small encloser, they DO pump some tight nice bass.. Sadly, they bumped hard in my old truck with a cheap a$$ jensen amp! Now with a 600w(total) Sony amp.. they're not bumpin much..
Im getting the BEST sound with the LPF OFF! So basically.. just wired up like regular speakers.

The amp i have has a connection adapter, for high (something lol) connection, plugs in and has the basic 2 fronts 2 rears, speaker wires.. Should I wire my rear 6x9s with that? For good low-midrange?

I listen to mostly metal, if it helps.. what plays on my radio sure does affect sound, rap can have the bass way up, turn the bass way up with metal.. you'll blow something. To much low and midrange i think..
