What do people think of the Alpine subs? I'm in the market and considering one.

Alpine...I actually know a few people that HAD them. Although they will suffice, there are better brands for the price and normally they can not be found in retail stores. But they are not as bad as pyle, boss, audiobahn and other weak sauce brands flooding ebay.

Suffice it to say I wouldn't run one in my car even if it were free.

I guess you get what you pay for. They are by far inexpensive imo. Are you going with any sub?

I am not a big fan of the type X. If you want something to handle that amount of power there are better options for not too much more $. I do however think the type r's are good woofers if you're lookin for some boom without going crazy. Type E and S are also decent SQ woofers.

My friend has 2 12 inch Type R's in his moms car and they are on point. The only thing with them is that you have to have the right amp for them to play up to its true potential.

i have two type e 10's in my trunk. With the right amount of airspace (i.e. 1.244 cu ft) they will hit just as hard if not harder than the type r's. I personally am not a fan of the type r's because all the do is want more and more power. Yes, they are okay if you run a 1000 watt amp to each of them, but my 1200 watt kenwood 2 channel amp on the two type e's hit harder, and everyone that hears em asks me if i got two 12's.... custom boxes is where its at!!

I was running 650 watts RMS to my Type-X and was satisfied with the output.

I have 2 12" type r's, the previous style< none of the ugly accordian style surrouund and i think they hit phenomenally. I paired them with a rf 1001bd 1000 watt amp and it was a match made in heaven. I also built a custom box that fits the angle of the backseat and made the volume in each chamber as close to factory recommended specs as possible. The factory specs are .8 cuft and mines at .89. The box is sealed and although smaller then my original box of 1cuft per chamber, i traded off amplitude for accuracy and was wellll worth it. I dont think i would want much more base then what i have now, i just wish they could hit lower then they do in a sealed box to maintain accuracy.

I purchased the system with alot less knowledge than i do now of car audio and audio in general and i purchased it all online making sure of compatibility all myself. This was about 4-5 years ago. If asked again i would definitly do it. Buying it online was great because it was all half price, but you need to be warey of where and who you purchase from. i think that for what i paid the system was well worth it. I think my amp was quality, i like rockford, its mainstream but thats ok.

I would buy em, but like i said, i dont like the accordian style surround.

The type s's are good too.

everyone on here has different tastes, you need to find what suits you best. As far as a quality product goes though, alpine has very good quality. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat, they have rock solid performance.

I have a single 12 in a custom sealed enclosure made to alpine specs and i think its VERY nice. I mostly listen to drum & bass and hip-hop...it keeps up nicely. Remember its not just the sub that counts...its the power its given, its enclosure and how your setup in the trunk is (dynamatted, pointing a certain way, etc)

i had one of the older type X's, ive had 2 kicker L7's in my truck, before i purchased the maxima.......and now in the max ive got two Alpine Type R's.....ive got a custom sealed enclosure

overall, i like em, it does the job for me....i had to go thru two layers of dynamat in my trunk and DEADEN THE HELL out of my rear deck, on top and below it.

I am new here and my experience and/or credentials cant be verified but IMO - it all depends on what you like and dont like and how much space you will give up. I dont think the alpine subs are worth the $$, Adire Audio recently closed there doors but robot underground is and has been an authorized repair center for there speakers since the beginning and they are presently building out the last of Adire Audios stuff and they will continue to support there products. I went into all of this because the Adire Brahma has long been one of car audios best subwoofers for a good combination of sq and spl and robot underground will sell you a new one for about $250-280 shipped. I brought one and I am very happy.
There are a few other brands that are really nice, Crystal cmpx2 $499, FI btl $700, sundown audio $?? around 3 to 400.

had two of the older type r's hooked up to a 1000 watt sony(unfortunatly, but it was free) amp and it rattled my old 3rd gen apart pretty much. real nice subs though. i now have a kicker 15" L5 and the kicker is louder but the sound quality is no where in line with the 2 12" type r's. real good subs
