pros step inside

i use to have 2 12"s with 125 watts to each, and it hit good in my car,now i wannato cut down on space i wanna get 1 12" the alpine type r ,heres my questions

1/ will i get good bass with that 1 type r if i put 300 watts to it ,or would the 2 12s win cuz of cone area

2/are mtx amps good for longevity,i wanna get a 5 ch mtx 4405,for whole setup and it will also power the type r with 300@2ohm,is the mtx sub channel class d power, will it make the sub pound

3/is there a better 12 sub with 300 watts thats better, under $150 looking for hard tight bass, i had the 2 12's in sealed box and i liked the way they hit so i would prolly be going sealed

Get a Digital Designs sub.
You will have to port it but you will get more output (also much better sound quality) than the Alpine.

Check out their website www.ddaudio.com

I use 1 of their pro 15's and hit 152db in SPL drag.

They also have cheaper speakers that have the same design they only lower power handling.

I have been in the car audio industry for over 10 years and have yet to find a manufacturer that even compares to DD's sub's.

Try them you won't be dissappointed.

You obviously missed that he wants it to hard and TIGHT." To know if it will match the output we need the X-max and surface area of the Alpine, and the subs you are replacing. Surface area multiplied by Xmax gives a good value for the amount of air that can be moved, and therefore the SPL potential. For more on this see the JL audio tutorials.

I don't remember if that channel of the amp is class D. I also missed something if AB is now considered weak. AB is quite good, better for SQ. But class D is much more efficient so in the car it is the better choice for subs. As far as MTX goes I haven't had an amp put out less than 115-130% of the advertised power rating. And they test at a voltage that many batteries can supply without the engine running, so expect more power at normal voltages. I was actually happier with the MTX I had before I replaced it with my PG 475ZXTi. It was more powerful and about half the cost.

If you make sure the enclosure is sealed into the cabin it will sound really good and almost no rattles. The ski hole in the back seat works very well for that.
