can i use Home theatre stereo RCA in car stereo?

i know the audiophiles will say this is a big NO NO.. but for us non audiophiles, will normal shielded home theater rca's work ok .. or will the interference and alternator whine be heard like crazy..

i also found some cheap 12ft car audio cables from Scosche..never heard of the brand.. they sell at Walmart for 7 bucks..those any good? Will 12 feet be enough??

here is the link

Sure, I use $300/per home interconnects in my truck. Would I use Those you linked? Really hit or miss. At least look for something 'shielded'.

Just remember most home cables do not do anything in regards to EMI as it is not an issue in the controlled environment.

You would prolly need 17 foot to go from deck to trunk. Scosche is not a bad brand, they do make higher quality RCA then those, but you would prolly have to go to a sound shop to get them.

If the RCAs are twisted, then you shouldn't need to worry about EMI shielding, right? On the other hand, you may need heat/friction shielding depending on where you install them.

Sheilding and noise rejection would be 1 issue but in many cases would work fine. The real issue is longevity, car audio cables and home audio cables use different exterior jackets. Heat, cold, and moisture are common conditions in the car but not in the home so the cables jacket is designed to hold up better to these extreme enviroment conditions.

OK so ive been looking around for the best deal on cables. doing some research and what not. found monoprice.com. component video and composite video and rca audio all share the same coaxial cable roots and rca connectors. monoprice uses RG59u spec cables designed for short distance high def video. they use triple shielded stuff (i think double copper braided with 1 foil shield.) the price is unbeatable. unfortunately.. non of them are twisted pairs. Thier Premium component cables use RG6 spec cable, which are basically super high end cables designed for LONG distance High Def video. i think thats overkill for car audio.
