Replacing GF's Bose HU - 4th gen.

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but I was looking at this thread: http://forums.maxima.org/audio-elect...nt-thread.html

And bought the Metra 70-7551, which looks like it has two wiring harness, with two RCAs on the end going into the HU.

Now, if her HU only has one set of Pre-outs, how should I hook this up? Would a splitter work?

Or should we be looking into getting a new HU? Sorry, I've never dealt with Bose before, and she needs a HU with iPod integration.

Thanks!

Would be better to have a HU that has 4 outputs. Or you could use a splitter but then you're splitting the output voltage of the HU in half, which means likely that the HU is 2-4 volts and so you'll be getting 1-2 volts per side.

Hmm, that's what I thought. I'm not even sure which HU she has right now...maybe I can convince her to sell it if it doesn't have 4 outputs.

Lol....not sure what the budget is going to be yet. Also, I may get lucky (not in that way, lol) and it may have 4 pre outs. However, if we are in the market I'll keep ya in mind

Thanks for the help nismos14

Ok, I'm looking through the install thread for replacing the bose HU, and I just need some clarification on the grounds situation.

So far there are 3 grounds: 1 from each Metra harness, and 1 from the new HU. Are they all grounded to the chassis via the frame? Or do you not ground the ones from the Metra Harnesses?

Also, is there a solution for popping or alternator whine when replacing the bose? I've been reading that some people have a problem with that after HU replacement?

Thanks guys.

No need to bump.

Ground the one thats coming out of the radio's harness directly to the chassis.

So you don't do anything with the grounds on the metra harnesses?

I hate to bump, but I'd like to know this before I do it.

Are there three grounds for this setup? All grounded to the chassis?

If it's just the HU grounded to the chassis, what do I do with the other two coming out of the metra harnesses?

I ground em all. There typically isn't a factory wire in the corresponding pin of at least one of the two spots where your two metra wires are, but it makes life easier to just ground em all in my opinion (because as an installer I often prep the harness prior to removing the stock radio)

I'm replacing the bose in my 96. Why are 4v preapms better than 2? Does it make a huge difference?

Ease of install, you just need the metra 70-7551 then, the price difference between a 4 v headunit and a 2 v is pretty negligible nowadays.
