MTX question

I have 2 10" MTX's in big ole heave bandpass box with a glass front. Dont know what model MTX's are but was told they are no longer made. Someone just told me that my specific MTX's are not designed to be used in the bandpass enclosure.I bought the whole box @ local fleamarket.

If I listen to hip-hop and techno, what type of enclosure best fits my needs? I always thought that bandpass is the shiat.

A bandpass enclosure will give you a lot of noisy bass while a sealed enclosure will hit bass notes hard, they're more accurate. I personally prefer sealed enclosures for the type of music I listen to (rap, R&B) It just takes more power(vs. a bandpass) to make them perform well. Most MTX subs I've seen were in a sealed enclosure that's where they shine

are you saying that I have to have a more powerful amp to run my MTX's in bandpass vs sealed?

No, they are saying that bandpass is louder but sealed is more accurate. But That contradicts his like of Rap which is better suited to a bandpass enclosure. Bandpass takes an accurate box design and good build quality to perform maximally, or even adequately. Sealed can be built poorly and still have average results. For the correct answer to your question email it to MTX technical service, advise them of your exact woofer models. They should be able to give every detail of the proper enclosure design.

I do not like band pass it seems to be loud 3 miles away but not in the car. I like ported for comp. but sealed for every day use. I had a VT 10" box and a orion 12" cobalt in a wave box they hit hard on an mtx 4202 amp. I hit 138.8db with the wave box I never tested the vt box. Both are ported.

Somewhere on that woofer is a model number, even a serial number. You should keep the serial number in a secure place in case it is ever stolen. The model number is probably painted on the back of the magnet.
