I'm looking to replace my head unit and stock bose speakers in my 2004 Maxima and I was wondering which would be a better choice for the rear speakers. To replace the bose 8 inch subs with after market subs or replace them with or aftermarket 6X9's ??? If the 6X9's are a better choice how hard would it be to fit the 6X9's in ???

BTW I already have a Kicker 12" L7 in a Kicker ported enclosure that I could use but I'm still looking for a good set up. Thanks in advance.

i would go for the 6x9's and throw the kicker in.

If you are really concerned with sound quality stay away from 6X9's. They are an unatural shape for speakers and never sound quite right. Most pro's remove 6X9's and replace them with 6.5" or bigger round speakers.

6.5s... or 8'' midbasses...

i assume you're talking about the ones on the rear deck? if so just take them out completely. replace the rear door speakers instead.

What he said. If you are brave and want awesomeness, remove the rears altogether and use the added cash you were going to spend on the rears and buy a better set of comps up front.

2 Polk MoMo's 8" subs
Cobalt Orion 300.2 amp
Custom box (forgot the dimensions)
4 Polk Db's 6.5

Go with 8" Subs IB, they will give you more output than you think but won't be 12l7 output. If you want to have a lot of bass, put in the l7 and remove the rear deck speakers altogether.

Thanks for the replies... I was actually considering removing the rear deck speakers completly but in fear that I would lose midrange bass. Can the speakers in the doors compensate and fill the midbass range ???

With my Polk's Db 6.5 (4 of them) I would have to say yes and I don't even have a 4ch amp pushing them. I'm more of a finesse listener rather than a bass head.

I was going to with Infinity or Polk... I have my Kicker L7 installed and my rear deck rattles like crazy... Did you have any issuses and if so how did you solve them ???

Go with the 6by9's because you already have a sub and it will sound alot better, but you might not beable to noice the difference but if you sit in the back it will make a big difference.

umm. no. the 6x9s will bottom out if the sub's output in the trunk is high enough. then all you get is just this farting noise clouding the bass response.

Add the l7 for lows, use replacement 8s for better midbass response to make up for the lack of bass frequency response you will get from the 12 inch and replace all interior speakers, you can replace the stock HU but keep in min with the Bose system it needs a low level to maintain te proper voltage to the amp so it doesn't burn up the amp with the high voltage high level aftermarket head unit (use aftermarket Pre outs and an amp integrator harness)

rear deck speakers not needed. You'll get best combo by getting quality frotn components, no rear fill (save) and throw L7 in the back to handle your bass. Quality 6.5's can definitely handle your midrange, though this all depends on what you are experienced with already.
