Good bare-bones remote start?

I'm looking to buy a remote start to install in my car. I don't want any features, really - it just needs to start the car.

Will I be able to install such a device without interference with the stock keyless/alarm? I don't want the alarm to go off if I try to remote start the car with the alarm armed.

do you have any alarm other than the factory alarm? If not, then don't worry about it. Nissan's alarms will not go off when you start the car when armed.

I would highly suggest you don't integrate with factory, the range is horrendous. You might as well spring for keyless entry/RS and gain the range.

Id suggest a Viper 160xv or similar Clifford piece, or if you want even cheaper, Valet 561r or 562T, or Avital 4000xl. All are DEI units.

Looking at the Viper 160xv or the 561R, will I be able to have the trunk release and all of the factory alarm?

Enerv: what did you end up doing with your alarm?

Do i need a bypass module (556u) for a 1998 maxima? I called best buy and they said I do, but somewhere on this forum people said the 1998 i30 does not need one.

(I'm also reviving this old thread because it's the exact question I need, and I can' t make new posts yet >.<)

Both of those units have a trunk output, but you'll need to add a relay. Both units also have a fac alarm disarm wire (is this what you're talking about?)

You'll need a keybox, (556u or TBXkey) yes. 98 was the first year they made chips in most if not all 98s

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know. My next question is what kind of relay? is there a specific one from DEI I would need?

I decided on the 561R and plan to use the factory key fob because my range is pretty decent.
1) If i decide to go with the valet remote, would I need to wire more stuff than just the remote start?

2) If i decide to add a shock sensor to the factory alarm ( vqpower how-to's). Would the remote start set that off? is there a way to get these things both to work with the factory alarm?

Thank you for your help.

The 561r may not be capable of factory integration, I'd check that. And I'm going to stress again, just get the new remote.. the range improvement is worth the difference in cost to install (IF any - they may even charge you the same amount). But its your car..

Also I'd suggest the Avital 4000xl over the 561r. Many will tell you that they are the 'exact same unit', and while this is pretty much true, the remote and antenna are actually quite different. That said, I had MANY 561r customers come back with remote/range issues. Of the Avital customers, pretty much none, or significantly less. The Avital is just a more reliable unit, period. If I was to get a barebones remote start, this would be the one..

Just a standard 30 amp relay, doesn't have to be DEI.. I use Bosch relays generally.

You can still add a shock sensor, and it won't go off provided you have it set so it won't.. What I mean by that is if the sensor is set too sensitive, it MAY go off with vibration of the car starting. Just adjust it until it doesn't consistently.

Are you attempting this install or is a shop?

'99 was the first year for them to need a bypass.

Avital would be 4003 if you Must add to your OEM, but the 4103 would be a better choice.

Valet has been dropped.

Another option for the bypass is a Nissan Transponder Interface PKN2. It automatically programs itself once wired up by turning the key on. I chose this because I didn't have a spare key to use in the other modules. I got it for $25 on ebay.

not for what I was thinking was the equivalent of a 99 chip - in which case this and 2000 are the year maxima's that you MUST use a key box, for some reason.

I could have sworn I've seen a 98 with a chip Don. I guess I was mistaken.

And yea, I didn't realize they dropped them, I've been out the game a little bit. For the best, the Avital's worked better.

Sorry, my mistake...I just looked at the pkn2 wiring diagram and it starts in 01 for Maximas.

i do have the antenna connected around the ignition as well.
the key is in the box and i have it on 60 winding. i tried 18 but still no go
