Newb Needs Advice

Hi guys,

After searching and looking through the stickies I couldn't find a thread that talked about the kind of basic stuff I want to do. I have a 97 max with a non-bose system. The back speakers are blown and the front are not sounding good. I don't want to replace the head unit, but I want to replace both sets of speakers with others that have decent bass since I won't be getting a sub or anything like that. Does leaving the standard HU limit my options in terms of speakers and what are some brands I should look at? Also, will the sound quality by decent by non-audiophile standards?

the hu is not necessarily a limiting factory, however the hu amplification and drop in speaker replacements are. "will the sound quality by decent by non-audiophile standards?" is way too generic of a question seeing as you have givin no reference to what "decent" is. brand recomendations would be a waste of time as well since you will not be seeing anywhere near the full performance of any aftermarket speakers, however i spent some time recently looking for decent, low cost, low power coaxials. pioneer revs, pg rsd, blaupunkt vx662, and some hi-vi diy coaxials are the ones i was eyeballing.

If your gonna swap speakers you might as well swap the HU.
