My headunit is XM-ready. What do I need?

I have a JVC XM-ready headunit. (dont remember the exact model off the top of my head). Anyway, I want to get the extra unit or whatever it is that allows me to have XM, however I'm not sure exactly what I need to be buying here. What I originally thought was...you buy this box and then get the proper wiring harness and plug and play. But now I'm seeing things like this..

mini adaptor?
or this other deal... called the Direct 2...which is like 100+ bucks.

You need an XM tuner compatible with your JVC head unit.

Something like this:

Are you sure thats any different from any of this other stuff? Its just a universal box. The only thing compatible with my headunit is the fact that the wiring harness has the proper connectors on the end of it. Look at the part numbers
XMD1000,XMDJVC100. The XMD1000 is the box, the XMDJVC100 is the wiring harness for JVC headunits. I just dont see what the difference is between this box and the Audiovox piece.

You need both pieces. One is the actual XM tuner, the other is the interface module for your JVC. I just wasn't aware they could be sold separately.

Now that I re-read that interface thing sounds like its almost just for ANY radio, xm-ready or not. Its so you can view the stations on your HU's screen and what not. But they show it with the MINI tuner as the actual tuner. So I dont see why I couldnt skip the XMD1000 and just use these two things and the proper wiring harness...
I guess they are both practically the same price...but...I dont know.

You could be right - give it a shot I guess, with the smaller one.

The one pictured above IS the Direct Connect2. You need that, Plus the appropriate cable for your HU.

If you are referring to the one in Post # 2, then yes. However Direct2 systems are the current products. The older/larger ones are now obsolete.

How is it confusing ? They had a universal tuner, it was discontinued and replaced by a newer/smaller one. What is there to be confused with ?

Well on their website they have a XM Direct and the descriptions are fairly vague. There are no clear signs pointing towards "XM READY HEADUNITS". You'd think you would want to advertise that a little better. And I still dont understand if the mini-tuner is required or if that's optional for people who already have a subscription for their house/another car.

BOTH pieces you have pictured in the first part are Direct2. One is the actual tuner and the other stores your info via the card that is inserted. It is removable to go elsewhere if you have more. Those two pieces fall under one SKU - CNP200UC, then you simply need the cable for your HU - 220CNPJVC1.

Okay so I lied. The headunit isnt XM ready its "SAT radio ready" (whatever). So I bought the XMDirect2 and the JVC connection cable. I'm at the website to program this thing for my headunit and come to find out they dont even have the KD-DV4200 on here...they have the KD-DV 5300, 5400, 7300, and 7400....so wtf is that about? I'm going to try programming for the 5300...I dont know what else to do.

wow what a joke. My headunit isnt on the compatibility chart and I called up to find out why and the excuse the guy gave me was simply that they hadnt come out with "it" yet and he couldn't tell me when they would be.

So now I basically have to buy a new headunit to make this thing work....
