hey everyone, can anyone give me some advice on my bose headunit? i have a 97 maxima SE and i'm going to change out all the speakers and replace them with:

Speakers:
Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1
Kappa Perfect 12.1

i know that if i change out the head unit that the sound quality will be greater but i really like the factory look of the bose headunit and i kind of don't want a double din arcade machine headunit (i know that sony made an all black double din a few years back but i can't seem to find anything like that again} going back to topic i understand the wiring will be a bizatch but does anyone think it's worthwhile to put premium speakers on a factory unit?

Also can you guys give me some opinions on amps? i was considering the Alpine V12 Expert series or some PPI's then i thought it would be such a waste of the quality in these amps to connect it up to the bose head. please help!!!
thanks for reading this if you got this far, kudos to you :]

It's kinda of a pain sometimes in a factory Bose system.
I know you like the look of the factory radio in the dash.
I did too. But I replaced it with an Eclipse TV monitor
with a Nissan factory pocket underneath it and it looks like
it was factory installed. Start first by replacing the
Bose tape/cd deck first, then move on to the speakers/amps
If you want to replace the deck first you will need an
inverter to accept the bose system for the aftermarket radio
that you install. I don't know where your from, but
Soundgate makes an adapter that interfaces with the stock
Bose amps/speakers check around with your local car audio
shops. The Soundgate adapter model you will need is a
NIB1 or NIB2.

Dave, I'm having problems with my existing Bose head unit (display is gone) and debating as to whether I should fork over $150 to fix it, or upgrade to a newer system. What is the Eclipse TV monitor system like? Do you have a vendor link you can post? I found out that Peripheral Electronics makes an adapter (NISAH4N), but requires "speaker level input". What exactly does this mean?

Thanks for your advice!

Getting the factory Bose head unit fixed is not worth it
unless you can find one out of a totaled Maxima. Replace
it with an aftermarket deck like Alpine or Eclipse.
Speaker level input means you extend the speaker leads from
the deck and plug it into an amp or an inverter for the
Bose system. So that rca cables are not needed
check out these web sites:

eclipse-web.com
alpine1.com
peripheral-aamp.com
and I think....soundgate.com

good luck

YES!
Look at the Kenwood KVT-910DVD It's a 6.5" monitor
in dash cd/dvd/tv tuner/touch screen all in one
single din unit! Retail on it is about $2400.00
This is the hottest item on the market today

That's basically it--money. If it were no object, why not go for an Eclipse monitor based system, right? Even the Kenwood 910DVD is quite a beauty. For audiophiles, money is usually not an object even if you don't make a lot of money. You just don't eat as much for a few months, keep fewer lights on, don't go out on the town for a while, etc.

For me, the noise from travel punishes sound quality. Also, the acoustics in a car is very poor. So, that extra dough doesn't deliver a very noticeable improvement to the average ear. I'm going with a $300 head unit that'll do the job just fine (10-20KHz, 102db sensitivity, etc.) and play MP3s.

Maybe when I'm ready for my next car, and my salary is a few thousand higher, I'll have no qualms with going for the extra glory--for the fun of it. But for extra high sound quality, money is best spent on the home system. IMHO.

i say change the head unit and get some nice speakers to go with it. Do not get the infinity 6.1 but do get the 12.1 subs. For front speakers i recommend any one of these manufcaturers
focal
cd technologies
oz audio
a/d/s
diamond audio
morel
dynaudio $$$

There are more, but these are the best

anything wrong with the infinity 6.1's? i've realized that since i'm not going to be in my car watching movies all the time i'm just going to go for a nice single din head unit with a eq to fill the bottom end, what do you guys think of the alpine eq? i don't want to get a digital eq because you can't change all the settings as readily as the analog ones.... or should i get the digital one? thanks guys!
