De-rattling help

I looked through the noise dampening thread but it seems the link i was looking for is dead.

I upgraded to a ported box which made my subs 328735875 times louder, but it also made my trunk look like it was going to explode. Does anyone have some tip's on removing the rattle from the *** end of an 07?

It seems that almost all of the rattling is coming from the peice which surrounds the licence plate (circled below). I was going to take this apart and see if there is something i could add to this area to stop it from doing this. I dont want to spend the $300+ to dynomat my whole trunk right now, so a temp solution would work. Has anyone else done this?

I am also looking for any idea's for letting more noise into the cabin. Since the 07 trunk is sealed it really makes the *** explode. So much that you can see the sides of the car bowing out when the bass hits. I just had both of my doors fixed from an accident with a deer, and someone found that i had matching dents on both sides which were caused by soemthing inside the car, i am guessing that it was the subs.

I did remove the 2 speakers from the rear deck but its almost doing nothing. I was thinking of cutting a hole where the rear arm-rest is, but i am guessing that this wont do much either. I dont want to drive around with my back seats down forever... does anyone have any experiance with this?

You could try a dynamat license plate frame kit to cut down on that a bit and sealing your trunk up shouldn't cost that much there a cheaper options than dynamat just have to look around but that seems to be your only options for the rattle.

Spend $50 on some dampening and do the trunk lid only. It will make a world of a difference.

There are no other practical solutions to porting more air into the cabin, since your speakers are already removed. Turn down your subs?

Does anyone know wtf the name of that peice around the licence plate would be? I have mhy trunk half taken apart, but this peice has some weird clips and i was looking for a way to remove them without breaking everything. Its hard to google if i dont know what its called :O

Btw. i plan on doing dynomat to the trunk lid as recommended. It seems that it where all the rattle is coming from and it would be a good start.

It doesn't have to be removed, don't bother. Just dampen it from the inside and you'll be fine.

Good plan Trunk lid #1, rear deck #2

I have a JL 13w7 in my 2007 and have eliminated virtualy all of my trunk rattle. Includeing the piece that the license plate is mounted to. I used 1 dynamat extreme bulk kit. I did the entire trunk lid includeing the inside of the outter skin that was acessable through the holes in the inner skin. Also covered the entire top of the rear dash, behind and under the seats. Only thing that makes noise in my trunk are the hooks for the cargo net and the vent between the wheel and bumper on the drivers side.

To get the license plate insert out it is a pain in the *** because of the plastic clips. Removing it startes with takeing off the trunk lid lineing. Remove the two nuts in the top right corners. I dont know of a tool to release the plastic clips so i used my fingers and a small screw driver to push in the two tabs on each clip in between the inner and outer skin of the trunk lid(there are 5 total). There is one in each bottom corner, one in the center, and one in each corner where the license plate would be. The ones directly behind where the license plate would be were impossiable for me to remove so i scored them with a razor knife then used a flat tip screw driver to break off the top part of the clips. After dynomatting and reinstallin the license plate insert it rattled very badly because of the clips i broke off. I used sheet metal screws where i broke the clips to tighten it up. The screws are hidden when you reinstall the license plate.

Pics show a 10w7 and a 500/1 that is currently resideing in my closet after being replaced with a 13w7 and 1000/1.

In the cabin i had rattles from the rear dash cover hitting the back window. Temporary fix was a towel cramed between the window and rear dash. This was permanately solved by cutting wood spacers, epoxying them to the rear dash then from inside the trunk putting screws into the wood spacers. Also had a rattle from the head liner around the skyview opeing. Silenced it with a piece of dense foam wedged between the roof and head liner. If only there was a way to keep my rx65 radar detector from bounceing around on the windshield and rattleing.

I already removed the rear plastic peice, and yeah that was the biggest pain ever. I threw some foam behind it and plastered the inside with duct tape, it seemed to remove all of the rattle from this area.

Did you have trouble with the trunk not having adjustable stoppers? i am still getting alot of rattle from the actual trunk, which would be solved with some adjustable rubber stoppers, but the ones that come on the 07 SL are not adjustable. I think i am going to have to hit a junkyard to see if i can find some that fit.

I have the same rattling at the license plate. Did any of you have rattling in your front dome light?

Before I did the deadening, my car sounded like a jackhammer on metal..I went on ebay and bought a bulk 36 square feet pack of dynamat ($120) and the roller. Did the trunk with a slow dryer and the roller and put about two layers on the lid, noise is gone....Also cut out a shape for the licenses plate and put it on the back of it

I did notice that I got a little rattle from the front dome where the glasses compartment is. I also get some rattle from where the skylight cover slides into the roof.
