yet again a few 6th gen car audio questions..

Ok, so I am a new 6th gen owner and I have the stock Bose 6cd system. Obviously I want to dump this as the CD player is on the fritz now. My first question is..

If I purchase a new headunit that fits the car, do I have to bypass the amp in the back with a harness? This sounds like a stupid question but will the new headunit be able to push the stock speakers fine without an amp?

Say I got this new headunit installed, assuming it's pushing all the door speakers now.. and I decide I want to upgrade the door speakers. Will I then require an amp to power them? I am not looking for a pro audio setup just some clearer/nicer speakers than stock at this point.

Do I need to rewire the door speakers or can I used the existing wiring? Or is their some kind of harness available? (I checked crutchfield but didn't come up with anything)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Lastly, aside from getting a new headunit my alternative option is just to add my subs/amp to the stock system. I have a tsunami hi/lo converter and I know people tap into the rear speakers but does this hi/lo converter tap in before the stock amp or after the stock amp?

Should I disconnect the rear speakers as well or leave them after I have my subs?

big thanks in advance

1. Yes, the correct wire harness is listed in the stickies. It doesn't bypass the amp, it utilizes it.

2. If you change out your speakers, you could power them with your HU, but if you want any decent performance out of them, you'll need an amp.

3. Your choice. Running wire into the doors is not a big deal. You could also tap the wires at the amp.

4. A HI-LO adapter takes a high level signal and makes it low level, so it can be inputted into your preamp inputs on an aftermarket amp. So it would be tapped after the amp (amplified signal). Though many simply tap the signal before the amp, splice in some RCA's, and just run it into your amp. That way you save on even having to buy the hi-lo.

Oh, and Boston isn't too far from NJ. Take a day trip and between myself and Don you can get some quality equipment and an install job you can trust.

HUGE thanks for answering all those questions djfrestyl. I most likely am going to go aftermarket headunit now and rock a Pioneer F700BT (I really need the hands free and navigation) I am sure most forum members saw this post all and were like "ahh thats a lot of work". :-P

I actually may be moving to NYC in the very near future. So I could def stop by and get some work done. I am hopefully going to be DJing in NYC, not sure if your a DJ as well or if that stands for something else in your name.

Why not get a HU with built in Bluetooth? Saves you time, money, fully integrated, and is a lot cleaner install.

If you're making the move, definitely hold off until you get into this area, the possibilities are endless.

Sidenote: I used to be a dj a while back. Been out of the scene for a long time, but the screen name stuck.
