Anyone think these look different?

This is the one I have;

And this is the one I just bought;

It looks to me as if the one I just bought has a high-roll surround, while the one I already have does not. I don't have the new one yet, so I am just going off the pictures - what do you think?

Anyone know where to get a high-roll surround swapped on to the one I have?

-Matt

I agree with your assessment.

I ended up calling what is now audiopulse and speaking with Julie - she said they stock the high-roll surrounds and the titanium cones If my new sub gets here and it has a different surround or cone, my old one is going to them to get a high-roll put on it.

Make sure the voice coils and magnet assembly are identical on them both.

changing the surround changes the theoretical Xmax and voice coil hangover numbers and etc etc.

If the ONLY difference is the surround on it, then yeah, you might have it changed.

Then again, for the price of getting it changed (IIRC, JBL used to charge $120 + parts to change a cone on their PA drivers), you may find it cheaper in the long run to buy another new one and sell the old one on ebay or something.

This would be a great idea if I could actually find another one, but I did well just to find this one...

I'm guessing it's an older generation sub or something?

I saw audiopulse stuff for sale at parts express (and other places), but none that looked like that.

Um, yeah - its a TC Sounds TC2000. They stopped making this exact sub a few years back when TC Sounds turned into Audiopulse. I think I am either getting a different generation of the same sub that I have, or one of them has been reconed over the years...

So I just got the new one today - it definitely has the high-roll surround, but it looks like it still has the aluminum coneFrom what I've gathered, the TC2K's with the high-roll surround all came with the titanium cones...

Guess I'll have to see what Thilo has to say about this.

I spoke with Julie at TC Sounds again yesterday and got some mixed news. Apparently, in order to put the high-roll surround on my TC2K that has the low-roll, the driver would have to be re-conned, as the high-rolls they have are already attached to new cones, and the aluminum cones are easily dented, so they will not attempt to swap out a surround on my cone. Basically, I would have to ship them my entire driver(assembled top and bottom pieces), let them do the re-cone, and get it shipped both ways - paying for shipping for a 40lb package both ways, plus give them $80 for the re-cone

Then, she calls me back and tells me that the drivers built originally with the "low-roll surrounds" do not have enough excursion in the spider to fully utilize the "high-roll surrounds", and if I just swapped out the surround/cone, it would only be for aesthetic reasons. Also, the only aluminum cones they had had the TC Sounds logo in the middle - which neither of mine have so they wouldn't match

Then, I guess she spoke with a tech, and had him call me back; they actually have an entire 12"top assembly in stock, aluminum cone, no logo, "high-roll surround", ready to ship for $150 shipped Needless to say it is on its way to me

OK, I finally got my replacement assembly direct from TC Sounds - but the one they sent me was only single voice coil!

And to top that, none of their phone numbers work and I can't get ahold of them. I have a copy of the email where he confirmed that it was a dual 4 ohm coil top assembly, but the one he sent me clearly is not...

I have about had it with these damn subs - I am about to ditch them for something a little more accessable.
