Replacing 1994 Bose headunit with 1995 Bose headunit

I have a friend with a 1994 Maxima with Bose whos CD player died. He has come across, what appears to be, the same Bose radio from a 1995. However, not only does he not have the harness for it, the harness is different. It's the newer style harness (Metra 7550). He's car uses the 1763 harness. I realize Metra makes harnesses that plug into the OEM radio (This one would be 71-7550), but I just wanted to check with you guys if I could just cut off his exsisting factory harness and wire in this, year newer, Bose radio? Surely the radio hasn't change internally?

PS. I realize he should just go aftermarket. But this is basically free. Thanks.

Come on guys. Anyone have any thoughts before I just dive in and hope he doesn't kick my *** for wasting $15 of his on a 71-7550 harness?
