12 12's or 18 10s?
12 12's or 18 10s?
im rebuilding my maxima this winter and im trying to piece together everything
so far im going to be running either 12 12's or 18 10's im leaning towards the 10s because its alittle more cone area and its more of a "wow" factor...also the design is a sealed clam shell...
im buying cheaper subs to start me off because i gotta be my car painted and do afew more electrical upgrades...
Once everything is set in stone ill be running 12 Fi Qs or 18 Fi SSD 10's
pros of the 12s are:
-less woofers to wire
-cheaper than 18 10's
-easier to wire (6 gp3000ds 2 woofers per amp)
cons
-little less cone area
-heavy to mount(remember i be laying on my back installing 6 woofers)
pros of the 10s are:
-more cone area
-lighter to mount upside down
cons
-cost more
-more weight over all
-more wiring (3 woofers per amp)

the 12s can handle 1500wrms and the 10s can handle 1000wrms..so everything works out about perfect..
for sure! i cant wait to tear out the system and start on a new one..
Huh ?Can I borrow just a small amount or your time, energy and will ?

How ?
I'd just go with whats cheaper, that way if something goes wrong or you miscalculate cost its not as bad (or does it add up to the same amount?). Either way, if done properly it will slam, I love Fi woofers.
18 ssds RMS: 14,400w
12 Qs RMS: 12,000w
The amount of 12s require less power.

thanks for the input fellas..
and yes i have 2 Fi BTLs 18s now..there "ok" i want louder/air mover!!
far as the power going to the woofers it will be the same "18kwms" (6 gp3000d pros) and 11 batteries (and yes i know its alittle over there RMS
)
and to clear up some responses to the whole 10s sound better or 12s sound better..etc im pretty sure its 80% install and 20% equipment..yes the 10s are smaller meaning less "actual" mass to move.meaning a quicker response but i dont think that would make that big of a difference for a human ear to pick up..maybe a 10 compared to an 18?

Just a thought. Not sure why it wouldn't be a good mix. I suppose if all your trying to do is bounce a quarter from a mile away, that's one thing. But for me it's always been more about quality and enjoyment, then putting money into something that people in teh next county can hear. It's not like they are helping you pay for it...
No. You will get cancellation, and it WILL sound like crap. I've personally seen it in many kids' setups that come into our shop, they all sound like @ss.
I dunno whatchu guys are talking about. I got 3" subs in my dash, 4" subs in my kicks,2 5", 6", 7", and 8" subs in my doors, then 15 super tweeters per door, and 2 8", 2 10", 2 12", 2 13", 2 15", 2 18", and 1 32" (for the low lows) in my trunk.
155 dB with 4 18s........i do 144 dbs with 2 12s Alpine Type Xs and 2 RFs 1500 Power Series

well a good rule of thumb is you double everything(batteries, subs and amps) it should raise 3-5 dBs..
theres a expo doing mid 56's with 4 18 btls and 4 gp3000d and only 4 hc2400 batteries..
also the maxima cabin is alot smaller compared to the expo so its less room to pressurize
but you are right there are many factors to acutally be 100% sure..but im a good 75% sure it'll be in the 155 dB range "hopefully"

How on earth are you going to fit that in a Maxima?
10 db change is 100 times the power, etc...on the drawing board, anyways. Once you start getting to the physical limits of amps and drivers, all bets are off.
IMO i would go with 4 18s. the whole 12 or 18 subs is kinda nonsense TO ME to have that many subs. steve meade from youtube is my reason for saying 4 18s take a look at his tahoe he also has a civic with 2 18s walled off like ur car im sure is.he built an escalade with 8 18s as well
