rca bass knob question?
rca bass **** question?
Greetings, I did a search on this but nothing came up. I recently got a dual double din player and it does knot come with a bass control from what I can tell. I have 2 12's wired and ready but i can not control my bass. so my question is: What would be a good bass **** to purchase? I got offered one at the shop that wired by radio but it was a jl audio for 70 bucks. Would a universal RCA **** work okay? is the quality on those alright? Let me know thanks.
I got a dual xdvd8265
edit : i know not all hu have a bass control so that is why i was wondering would a cheap universal one be okay cus they offerd me a jl audio one but it was like 70 bucks. and ive seen universal ones for like 10

I have never seen a head unit with a RCA sub output that didn't have a control for it. I'm sure you read the manual and also went through all the audio and system adjustments on the head unit. I have a kenwood dnx9140 and i can honestly say that there are some options the head unit has that are not covered in the manual and that the setup menus are not very intuitive.
Basically all the in-line bass control is a variable resistor that allows you to decrease the signal voltage to the amp. If the voltage output on the head units sub output is low, 2v for example, then as you turn the bass down with the in-line bass control it could cause a hum when the input level on the amp gets too low depending on the quality of the amp. Most entry level amps have circuitry in them to prevent this though.
I think it will do what you want it to. If it doesn't then your only out $10.

The reason the JL one is $70 is because it's likely a line driver, not a bass ****. It requires power, and therefore provides a certain amount of amplification. Your HU should have internal bass controls, and if you don't have a **** that came with one of your current components, I doubt you need to stress over introducing additional non-essential components into your system.
the head unit i got is the dual xdvd8265 i read the manual and stuff and nothing about bass control i even tried resetting it myself. i read the manual too
http://www.dualav.com/support/manuals/xdvd8265.pdf
that is a copy of it. the jl one is a bass **** as well just comes with a power unit too. so i dont know what to do i did read the manual and i searched online and nothing about a control on the head unit. i could be wrong though.
another problem is that now my head unit video is not working. they say they think the ribbon messed up cus they showed it to me and the ends of the ribbon look darker almost burned.

Page 14. There's a control for bass increase under the Audio menu of the Setup screen.
Sorry to say, but that's what you get for buying Dual. If it's a new unit, take it back. Unless it was improperly installed, there should be no reason for the ribbon cable to be burned.

Page 14 is exactly what you're looking for - you're not going to get anything more out of your head unit than that. If your '2 12's' are hooked up properly, then the BASS control (aforementioned, page 14) will directly affect the output of your subs - which, per your first post, is EXACTLY what you're looking for. If you don't feel like pressing 3 buttons to change that setting, well then I've got nothing more to say.

i get what you are saying. it was hooked up correctly. but the bass control was for the mids and highs. ill prolly end up with the rca bass ****. i just wanted some input. thanks for it.
"but the bass control was for the mids and highs"
This makes no sense. Think about what you're saying. If you're raising the bass on the HU and it's increasing the mids and highs - perhaps whoever installed the system hooked the speaker amps into the subwoofer RCA, and the subwoofer RCA's into the high output.

ill find out how they hooked it up. the reason i said it controls the mids and highs was because my bose HU has a bass control as well so i put two and two together.
just take it somewhere and let someone that knows what they are doing do it. there is no need for an external bass ****, you have a bass level control built into your hu, you will soon learn that the more componenets you have in your system, the more of a chance you have for some to go wrong, everyone is giving advice, but he has no idea what we are talking about,
