What amp to get in the $200 range ??

So i ordered a single 12" Alpine SWR-1242D Type-R Sub, now i need an amp and a box, suggestions appreciated =)

I want to hear how this sub will sound and i might get a second one if this one isn't loud enough by itself.

Here is the amp im looking at:

If i read correct the sub you listed is a dual 4ohm and rated at atleast 500w and both coils have to be used so its recommend that your giving atleast 250w to each at 4ohm coil which the amp you list isn't capable of. So you might have to increase your budget if you want decent output from the sub

you can get a four channel amp thats rated atleast 250w X 2 @4ohms and bridge both channels into each coil. So the Polk PA500.4 or the JL G450 comes close to your price range and should do the trick. PS... your life would have been easier with the 1222D model sub much easier to power

600w RMS @2ohms, should power that TypeR just fine.

PM me and we'll talk.

i had a single 12" type-r pushed by a mrd-605 alpine amp in a sealed box. The set-up was so clean, providing very tight bass. You're prob not going to find another sub that can give you a clean bump, a single "R" wouldn't rattle the car's window next to you at a light, but able to shake your rear-view around.... so pissed after my set-up got stolen. My two P1's are equivalent to a single type-r, but then again they are only powered by a crappy Profile amp. If you're looking for serious stuff to shake your house 5 blocks down, type-r is NOT what your'e looking for, better get a L7 or something along those lines. If you want that bump with clarity, stay with single type-r in sealed box. I've hear the ported box does pretty well but i haven't heard it.

Anyways, i would check on craigslist for an amp, just make sure it works before you buy it. If you don't mind getting a used amp, you can prob find a JL 500/1 for around $200 or a RF 500w amp. Trust me, you'll regret it if you get a crappy amp, i bought a used set up of the p1's powered by a "600W" profile amp for $100, and those subs aren't even pushed to it's potential. I'm going to get a better amp soon though.

If i were to buy new, i'd prob get this:
