Replacing the entire BOSE system

Ok peeps,

I have a 1997 Maxi with BOSE.

I want to replace the speakers and HU. No more BOSE!!!

My aftermarket HU only has sup pre-outs. I am goin to use that for my aftermarket sub. I am going to wire to Metra harness w/o the RCA jacks( think its the 0550 not the 0551).

Do i need to re-wire the speaker wires. Meaning..do i have to run new wire from the HU all the way to each speaker?? Or can i still use the factory wiring??

yes u need to run new wire, the bose wiring is very thin as i believe its wired for 1 ohm. it wont be hard to run new wire bro. im planning on doing the same in the near future, running new wire and leaving the existing bose wiring there so it can be easily returned to stock.

Explain what the gauge of wire has to do with the bose speakers being one ohm please?

All the speakers work so i kno the wires are good. I was thinking...the rms wattage for each speaker..it should be fine.

Im not sure about the BOSE system tho. I recently bought the car (1997 MAXI GXE) and I looked at the system briefly. THe HU is bose BUT there are no tweeters. I think the previous owner jus wanted a CD player. With no tweeters the speakers arent BOSE and the system is stock w/ a BOSE HU. Obviously i will verify when i go to replace the speakers. But for the BOSE to work, it would need a AMp for the Speakers which is confusing to me. However, I dont think there is an amp, cuz the system doesnt get loud. It jus gets louder, like its gettin a low level signal or the BOSE HU isnt supply alot of power.

It should work. As long as there is continuity from the AF HU and AF speakers the setup should work. Audio signals is electrical signals jus like power signals. If i have to run new wire then thats

Ideas? Comments?

ahh idk about any of that sounds pretty interesting. the speakers if they were bose from what i recall would have mini amps on them. i know they do in my 5th gen and it has an amp in the trunk as well.

GXE doesn't come with BOSE, so if BOSE hu is in there but no amps, then it technically should be VERY quiet. Look at the back of the rear deck speakers, are there black covers on the bottom? About 4" deep?

I will do so....I think the person intially installed an AF. THen they sold the car and put the BOse back in. I found The lil storage bin for the double din inside the glove. I jus dont know where they got the BOSE from. THats whats puzzling to me.

THe radio works but the CD player doesnt. So when i turn it all the way up. It gets louder but not loud. I think im good. Im jus waiting to recieve my AF HU

Yup he installed bose in a non bose car, cd player is probably just broken. He could have gotten the bose headunit from a lot of difference sources including junkyard, this forum, on-line, ebay.

I kno what reg speakers look like. So if they dont look like reg speakers w/ no amps then i know what system i have.

I havent had a chance to look...but what i have read the amps would be located on the speakers themselves. I have a descrip of the colors and there signals from the FSM.

If in case i do have the BOSE....the audio signals come from the BOSE HU. All i wd need to do is remove the speakers and clip all four wires for the speaker. tape up or corver the power and ground wires. then jus wire the new speakers to the factory audio wires.

When I have grounded the AF HU i forget how i did it...but i have never grounded to chassis. there a combination that i did with the pos and neg grounds..but i forget.

For my sub...im lookin for a place to get the amp power cable into the cabin...its a PITA. Might have to drill

The reason I am 99% sure you don't is becuse the bose would be much louder at full volume, without the bose amps the system is very quiet even at full volume it's like a middle level for a standard system if not less.

I agree. Its mid-level or less volume than normal. Thanks Nis.

So this turned out not to be a complete BOSE system removal?? I just bought a 95 maxima yesterday and I want to remove the BOSE system completely. I have read over tons of information on these boards and I am very confused and overwhelmed and not totally sure what I should do...

Can I use the existing wiring for the speakers? Will I need any of the HU adapters that I have seen mentioned? I am compiling a list of things I will need, please add to it...

New HU
New speakers
antenna adapter for HU
single DIN kit for new HU
