4th gen HU removal

I am not delicate. I need to know how to remove the non Bose head unit in my 97.Couldnt find the sticky about it so I'm asking for a link or instructions.
I would LOVE not to destroy my whole dash.
hmm, I just though maybe I could replace my black trim by some wood trim at the same time if I have to remove it!!

- Pull center vent assembly directly back. Remove the harness connecting the hazard/clock/defrost attached to the vent section
- Remove (2) bolts/screw holding the top part of the center console in
- Remove the trim around the shifter
- Remove (1) phillips screw holding ash tray in
- Pull ashtray out (I find it easier to open the ashtray and then pulling it out)
- Remove bottom (2) bolts/screw holding bottom part of center consle in
- Disconnect A/C harness and radio harness and antenna cable

^^ +1

The center vent is a pain...use a screwdriver the at the top-center of the center vent to pry it out. Lift out the bottom then pry at the top with the screwdriver.

The ashtray will be a pain too. Remove the screw then jus pull it out with all ur strenght. U wont break it. There is a nissan superman clip on it that is a pain to get out. Jus pull really hard.

THe rest is cake

The center vent isn't too bad. I would suggest not prying on the top near the dash as you could damage it. Easiest method I found out would be to gently pry the bottom part of the vent section out until you can put your finger tips under it. Then put your thumb where the clock would go (palm facing up) and pull it towards your body. Just remember, there's 3 harnesses plugged to the back of the vent.

The ashtray isn't too bad either. What I did here was eject the ash tray so it's open, then pull it towards the driverside and out and the same time.

I forgot to mention, you must unplug the ashtray light and also the cigarette lighter plug as well.

Good luck!

Here's a guide you can follow.

thanks a LOT guys, I would have ended up destroying everything
It shoudnt be so complicated, I like the two holes you find on each side of the HU on 'normal' cars'...lol
thanks again
I'll put my Kenwood *** kickin radio in there. No Bose? Then no stock.
