mdf rings
mdf rings
Im goin to change my 6.5 speaker's in my 2003 maxima and I was wondering if I really needed those mdf rings? I've never done this before plus I don't know where to purchase these rings, also should be a certain size because I looked on ebayy aand there were 2 different types a tear drop and just a ring, which do I need? How thick do they need to be the, rings I saw were 1inch thick. I know people make them but don't those types of tools or wood any help would be aapreciated
When I brougght the car I had the stock speakers replaced at bestbuy, when I opened the door trim today the white adaptors were not there just the first set of 6.5s were there. He drilled holes to help them fit but its not secure so I need new rings.

I would just goto a local stereo shop. They can make them in 20min if they dont have any layin around already!
I got mine off of a guy on E-bay. I used 3/4" rings. You need to be really carefull what speaker you are putting in there as you have VERY LITTLE clearance in the front doors. When you roll you're window down, it will hit the back of the speaker.
So do we still need to get mdf rings if we are changing out speakers from stock?
You don't NEED to use MDF rings. They are used as they help prevent your sound from transferring to your door panel. They are also used to "raise" your speaker in the door panel, thereby allowing you to run a deeper speaker without fear of it hitting the window. If you are putting a shallow speaker into the door, then you don't HAVE to use a MDF ring. I would still recommend using one, as your speaker will sound better. You need to know the mounting depth that you have in your door, and shop for speakers accordingly. If you use a 3/4" ring, then you can add 3/4" to the available mounting depth for the speaker.
Sorry and not to jack this thread but I'm new to the forum and I have a 93' SE w/Bose spkrs and would luv to install my Polk 6.5 components in the front doors but I cannot find any replacement door mounts/adaptors to fit them. It comes with 4" or 4*6 spks now, blown...Would any of you guys know where I can buy any? Thanks for any response..
This website is awesome and I recommend it for anyone interested in audio in general, but there's a guy on here that'll sell mdf rings custom to your needs.
