CAN SUB CAUSE PROTECT MODE

I have a cerwin vega that wprked for a week hit hard too. Now it causes my amp to go into protect mode, i thought my amp was broke but i hooked the sub up to mt brothers amp and the same thing happened. Im wondering if maybe i wired it wrong or is something messed up on the sub?

yep, sure can. the sub can be wired too low of an impedance for the amp to safely handle.

My setup 1 4ohm sub w dual voice coils 500 rms 1000 watts the amp is bridge p5002 250 rms 500 watts. I kno the amp isn't as strong as the sub but it sounded great until it stopped working.

If the amps go into protect mode as soon as they are turned on with that sub connected, you have a direct short. (ie. coil is shorted).

Try just hooking up one of the coils at a time to your amp or put a meter on them.

it doesnt go into protect right away when i was trying to asjust the bass gain and frequency or when i turn the volume up around 16 or 20 it goes into protect.

Well I guess the impedance is below what the amps are "happy" with.

Do you have an ohm meter? I would measure the DC resistance of each of the coils separately and compare it against mfr spec.

Like most of the guys here I would say check the ohm or impedance rating on your amp. See if it matches it to your sub. Then rewire it, if it's dual voice coil keep it at single as this would raise your impedance!

Rule of thumb for amp, you can always run more power (as you can turn your gain down) but never under power your speakers.

Just out of curiosity, is there a difference between dc and ac resistance?

Sub is trashed it started sounding like paper blowing in front of a fan. It still had some bass to it but I think its done. New problem Ive had this HU for like 6 years alpine cd-9825, it over heated cutoff and the screen said hi temp so im guessing its time for a new HU
