8" sub...Is it enough!?!

So I have a quick question. Recently I revamped my entire bose system. I placed a 8" Polk Db840 in the factory hole in the rear deck. Obviously it didnt sound right not being the right type of enclosure. I ordered a .40 8" box to put it in. So, I'm curious if it will be heard if it is in the trunk in a box and not up in the factory location. I'm running about 140 watts bridged. Im not looking for ground moving bass. Just enough to fill out the lows.

Nice, I'm thinking of leaving the hole open where the factory sub was and just putting it in the trunk in the box. So, it will be heard though? Right?

Not very well probably. Better if you can mount the box to the rear deck with the sub firing through to the interior. OR find a sub that will work well in the rear deck.

I thought about that also. I'm not sure there is enough room on the bottom of the deck, the trunk rods are right there.

I was just wondering if you had the rear deck reinforced or if you did like the post says, and just did a direct swap with the speakers?

Nah, I just replaced the speakers. I had to cut out the metal alittle to make the 8" fit in the rear deck. I'm hoping the box makes it sound better. I guess I'll just have to play with diffrent locations!?!

SUPPOSEDLY its recommended that an open air sub be used as a replacement...i havent gotten that far to agree with it yet though. i believe Kicker and Alpine have a nice open air sub

I think if you deaden and seal off the rear deck and back seat, I'd venture to say your sub would probably sound better. I'm getting ready to do my rear deck and trunk.

Installed in a box, or in your rear deck?

Just intsalled the polk in a sealed box. Its much better! Not ground moving. But, you can tell its there. If I upgrade it's going to be to a Alpine 10"

I'm running 2 8" boxed Hertz subs. I'm feeding them 350W each. They won't be heard 4 blocks away, but I definitely know they are there. I can rattle my mirrors easily.

If you are putting in the rear deck it must be IB aka free air I went with a FI IB 12" sub did the job for me but you will have to mod the rear deck for it to fit

I ended up jist putting it in a .40 cubic ft box. Removed the sub and bracket from the rear deck. Its enough! If I want more I'll either add another 8" or get a 10.

You can see pics of it here:

JReed, I want to swap my stock bose subs for some better ib aftermarket ones such as Image Dynamics and put a better amp on them. Can I simply pull the factory bose amp and subs and replace with aftermarket stuff and LOC or is it more complex than that?

Thanks

JB

That hole in the rear deck can possibly fit a 12" couldn't it?

Depending on how you brace the deck and mount the sub, you could probably fit any number of sizes in there.
