Subwoofer Boxes

Ok.. I have:
Sony 1000 watt class d amp
2 12" Nakamichi's
and.... then comes the box... right now i have a dual bandpass box picked out, but im gonna ask yall for opinions. whats the difference between bandpass boxes and normal boxes? and if i get a normal box, im afraid to put anything in the trunk because the subs are exposed to being punctured. everyone, please post opinions on the different types of boxes and what box i should get

First of all not every sub will work in every box. The box needs to be built for a particular subs various T/S parameters. That being said, bass heads typically like bandpass or vented boxes. Sealed gives the least output, but the most accurate. That's if we leave out AP and free air.

You could make your own grill out of metal screening, perforated metal or plastic, or you could buy a set of factory-same brand as sub or universal aftermarket grills.

If you have a shop you deal with a lot, they should give them to you for free. I bought a sealed 12" bos for $20 and got the grill for free because I let them do my installs.

It is up to the music you're listening to. I went with bandpass, it makes your bass sound bigger.

I also went with dual bandpass because my current subs cant take alot of power so its the most efficient way for them to work and it moves alot of air with a bandpass without alot of power. When I get some better subs then I will switch over to sealed or maybe a custom tuned vented enclosure.

I listen to rap and rap only... and i want the subs to hit hard, but i think im goin with sealed because 1000 watts is enough for me.
